If you have the option of owning one which will it be? Both seem to have identical specs is one better than the other?
I think you’ll find Americans will be light on experiance with these guns due to import restrictions.
I’ve shot both, like both. If they were sold in the USA I would probably own both. If forced to own one I would probably go with the SIG
I’ve never even touched them…
…But I do like the G36c’s concept better then the sig552, on paper. Specifically, I like the straight locking magazines, and the ambidextrous charging handle.
I think the Norwegian G36kv would be even better considering it has an external bolt release in front of the trigger.
Or do all G36 rifles have an external release? I don’t remember…
I know the ones I got to play with were straight from HK and they had the bolt lock right there as well.
I’m assuming you’re talking about getting some post '86 dealer samples.
The 552’s have a bad rep for breaking bolts with a little use.
The G36C that I’ve shot and run a class with is a neat little beast, but mounting optics sucks. The front sight post is VERY thick polymer and kind of gets in the way of your sight picture.

It’s a wee bit 'o doom though.
On a side note, does Swiss Arms even make the 552 anymore. I thought it was replaced by the 553 to address reliability issues.
It has been dropped in favor of the 553.
How do these two compare with the HK53? I’ve known a couple of guys to swear by those but I’ve not fired one. Have tried the 552 and liked it though.

Woah…an AK style operating system…BREAKING BOLTS!?
What was the reason behind the bolt breaking?
Just held a sig 552 and all I can say is nice! It comes with folding front and rear sights and the factory trigger is very good! Haven’t shot it yet but will soon. I also hope to try it out side by side with a friend’s G36c and Micro Galil.

Aimpoint Micro works really well!

I dont like you right now…
The 552 has some of the best iron sights I have ever seen, with night sights, day sights, range adjustments that seem trustworthy… I would probably stick with iron sights if I had a 552 or 553, and keep it with me in a backpack or messenger bag.
I like both…
. Don’t make me choose!

The G36C on my friend’s has the KSK folding sights similar to the MP7 which should be better for mounting optics.
