SIG 1911-X Optics Ready

So far these appear to only be available in 5" black and FDE. A Commander size is shown but isn’t available yet.

It will be interesting to see if any of these new features bleed over in the existing SIG 1911s like the STX.

I also wonder if a 9mm version is planned.

I want to get the full-size FDE model to go with my 1911 Emperor Scorpion.

I like the black one with flat trigger…but I would be interested in a Commander size unless they invoke Dan Wesson pricing…

A sig built 1911 would be hard pass from me. Cohen is the one who destroyed Kimber. It will probably be the same level of quality.

While at the range today, I walked by the gun case and noticed they had one of these on display. Also in the case was three iterations of Springfield TRP (including two of the newest gen) and a Dan Wesson Specialist. I handled all three of them side by side.

The Sig 1911 X seemed noticeably lighter and more svelte than the other two, which seemed like giant hunks of steel in comparison. Ergos and everything on the Sig were good, but I really did not care for the series 80 style trigger. There’s apparently not a whole lot you can do about it, either. The break itself was fine, but the take up was very un-1911 like compared to the other two.

The TRP felt nice all around, but that checkering on the front and rear of the grip was some of the most aggressive I’ve ever felt. I’m not sure how I’d like that over an extended range session.

People often complain about the Series 80 parts “ruining” a trigger. Would the grit or movement of the parts be felt when shooting fast as would likely happen in a defensive shooting or at an IDPA or USPSA match?

If push comes to shove, the little bird’s head and lifter can be polished to help remove some friction. The plunger in the slide can also be polished up a little to ease its movement. The final option is to simply remove the parts from the gun. It will still work fine without the firing pin block but won’t be as drop safe.

At quick look, it goes for around $1500? Not bad…

It’s a fair point. There’s a difference between what you experience while slowly milking the trigger versus how it feels when actually out shooting. To that end, I thought the Sig’s trigger was fine. Certainly better than what you’ll experience with most factory pistols.

In a side by wide with the TRP and DW Specialist, the difference was pretty notable though.

Double tapped

I’m pretty sure my local shop was less than that, too.

I really like that it’s already milled for RMSc, too. Assuming I could get a holster for it, there’s a lot of really good arguments in favor of the Sig as the “Three World Wars” model.

I dig the external extractor. If an optics-ready DWX compact never materializes, I might bite on one of these in 9mm with an aluminum frame that accepts arched mainspring housings. Maybe. Of course, G19s meet my needs, so I’m not in a rush.

For anyone paying attention, Sig did put out a commander-sized version of this as well. I keep being tempted by the full size- something to be said for a modern 1911 with rail and optics plate.

I also keep holding out that they may do a 9mm version.

Or, better yet, a double stack 9mm 1911 based around the P365 mag system.
