Sierra 168 grain MatchKings loads.

I have a high end client who wants me to load some of these for him. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyone have any favorite loads that they’ve found to be accurate. He’s probably shooting them out of his LMT 308… not a Bolt gun.

eep.

well, the so-called accuracy loads that i’ve been working with in 1x10 twist bbls are

-a range of 40.5 to 42 grains of IMR 4064

-Fed 210M primers

But this is kinda like saying water is wet, pretty generic loads.

YMMV, of course.

I’d give Varget a try. I load 44.5 grs. for the 175 SMK in a bolt gun, so just try seating the 168 instead. If I recall correctly, 46 grs. would be about max.

Its for my M1a,but I would believe it would work fine out of the LMT 308 as well !! LC Brass,Winchester LRP,40.6 grns of IMR 4895 168 grn Sierra 168 MK !! I also use Nosler 168 Match with same results, just pay a bit less for the bullets !!!

Check data carefully, you do not want to load gas gun loads any where near what a bolt gun will take. My advise is to also small base die size the cases and trim them to spec.

Yep…Good point on the bolt gun loads… noted!!

I have a package from Sinclair coming. I plan to use the Wilson case trimmer to keep case lengths very consistent.

Right on… Do you feel the Match primers are worth the extra cost in an “accuracy” load… as opposed to a “precision” load?

I think if your gonna do the “Whole Treatment” the Match Primers will help !! By that I mean Size,Trim,do the inside the case primer hole deburr thing and make sure you uniform the primer pocket !! Sinclair has a great tool for that !! On the other hand,as good as the LMT rifles are,its not a Bolt gun,so you mite be doing ALOT of “extra” work and not really achieving a noticeable difference ! If it were me,I would load up 20 with just normal primers and no real “extra” case work other than checking and trimming if needed & then do 20 and really give them the full works and see what ya get,if any difference !! Keep us posted for sure, would love to see the difference between the Rd’s and targets !!

High end client, right?

Actually, what’s the maximum intended range?

Thanks… We’ll be doing the testing.

Yeah… it is I who can’t get used to the notion of the high cost of accuracy… Like slut pointed out… The auto loaders these will be shot in won’t likely realize the benefits of pure bred primers.

And who said Markm didn’t have a sense of humor. I’m guessing that “high end” redneck would like to hit center mass at 500yards. M1A scout, Nosler is a good idea. My LMT likes that Nosler match cartridge about as good as anything Ive shot.

PB,

You should get markm to load something similar to the M118LR round. I know some guys who really like that round and it’s performance.

I believe that they are 175gr. SMK bullets. I can probably locate a decent loading or two from another location.

Good point, several members said their 1 /10 twist guns liked the 175’s best. We’ll have to to try a 100 and see how they fly.

I don’t want to want to start a argument but NEVER USE A MATCH PRIMER IN A M1A OR M1. I am a serviver of a slam fire in a M1 traced to a federal match primer.

To make a point, fire a M1 or M1a and then extract the live round that was chambered from fireing the first round. You will see a slight dent on the primer from the momentum of the firing pin.

Slam fires are caused by high primers, soft primers (such as found in match primers and other factors. slam fires often occur before the bolt is fully locked (mine did) and you have 48,000 to 50,000 psi on the loose very close to your face.

Federal match primers are very accruate but too soft for a gas gun.

he went into younder village and never returned

Thanks, D. We’ll stick with regular Large Rifle primers.

Thank you thank you thank you. No shit , THANK YOU. I have had all the fun I can stand with primers lately. I had two on the same day jam up on my LMT 5.56 and had to hammer out the bolt. It marred the inside of the gun and was a royal pain in the ass. It was 5.56 surplus with LC brass, who would have thunk.

pb

From a bolt gun, but should give you an idea where to start.

Hodgdon says 46.0 gr is max at 2731 fps and 50,600 CUP (unknown barrel length)

Unless you actually tailure the load for the actual gun he’d be better off just buying commercial match loads! Meaning unless you have the gun to shoot the loads through it is pointless!

Markm has the gun. We shoot together often:rolleyes:

I have an LMT that I was shooting tonight. What FPS is too much for this gas gun? Th highest I got was 2616. Chrono was 15 ft away. 42.5 grains of TAC, 168 SMK, LC brass

I was getting 2.41 mils to 400 yds and 6.8 mils to 700 yds.
