Sideways primer,,,What would have happened?

Realitively new reloader, just a couple thousand rounds under my belt. When I was running my last step, checking all the ammo before it gets in a box or mag. I discovered 1 rd with a sideways primer.

What would have happened if that went through my m4?

The priming compound was probably crushed when it was seated sideways. If it chambered correctly probably nothing would have happened. It’s possiable that the primer could have survived being seated sideways and maybe the primer would go off but the flashole would be blocked so the powder would not ignite.

Thanks.
Not near as exciting as I thought:)

I’ve mashed more primers that way than I can count. Good old Dillon primer flipping progressive. I’ve gone to hand priming with a Sinclair hand priming tool.

That is an awesome device. I’ve not had one problematic primer seating since I switched to it.

Whats’s even more awesome is the price…(grin) though, I admit they have to be the very top of the line of primer seaters. I use a pair of K&M primer seating tools that run in the $35 range per unit…though I am sometimes tempted by Sinclair’s offering.

Yep. It took me over a year to finally pull the trigger on one. It’s not for someone who is going for speed/volume. But I can prime in front of the TV and then load on the progressive from primed brass later.
