Shot Show PICS/Thoughts

Just got back from the SS. Weather was perfect (unlike the 9 degree temps and snow here in Ohio). The annual M4C Mod/Staff/Industry dinner was a good time with lots of stories and industry info being shared.

It was fairly apparent to me that the economy has hit the firearms industry pretty hard. Booths were half the size they normally were and not a lot of new guns and gear out IMHO. There were a couple good deals for dealers, but for the most part nothing worth buying.

Here are the highlights listed by manufacturer:

S&W

The Governor. Well I am not into this type of thing, but if you are, it is a much better product than what Taurus puts out. They use a Scandium frame, smaller grip, offer CT laser grips and you can shoot 45 ACP through it.

M&P .22 pistol. Looks pretty good, but will have to wait and see how the reliability is. Has a thumb safety that feels different than a standard M&P with a TS.

Absent from the SS were the slim line M&P’s and machined slide M&P. S&W has both of these guns in working prototypes, but decided to not show them off.

Aimpoint

They have a new “PRO” series optics package. It is basically a 2MOA M3 with 3yrs of battery life and a QRP2 mount (already mounted). This package is directed at LE sales and is meant to compete with the EOTech better.

Trijicon

RMR’s. Trijicon showed off the adjustable LED RMR’s (3.5 and 7MOA). The ability to turn the dot down so that it does not bloom is really nice and believe that these will be a hit. They also showed off a triangle reticled RMR in the dual illumination version.

LANCER

AWM. These mags look fantastic to say the least. They have a Glock like RTF finish, steel feed lips that are bonded to the OUTSIDE of the polymer mag body, anti-tilt follower and come in translucent, Black, OD, FDE and Foliage. Retail price is $15.

Colt

Has as new “Sporter” line that that is basically the LE line (6920, 6940, etc) with the name Sporter on the side and all LE markings removed. They will also be picking up Commercial distributors for these rifles and should be offering parts under this banner in about 90 days.

SureFire

A couple new products caught my eye. Their mags look good in person and I think the 60rd versions will be a hit (assuming they run). The new Mini Monster suppressor will be of interest to those folks that like to muzzle strike people.

They also showed off two .22 LR suppressors. The baffles can be removed for cleaning have a retail price in the low $400 range I believe.

As far as lights go, they showed a one battery light that looks like an E1B with a DG switch installed on it. Lumens was 110 and will appeal to folks that want a SF weaponlight, but find the X300 a little too much for their wallet.

Crye Precision

Had a magazine clip system that looked interesting. You could mount it on your belt or molle. Seems like it would be a hit on the LE or Civy side if you wanted to grab a mag quickly and attach it to you.

Walther

PPQ. This pistol looks to be VERY good. Accuracy reports from the shoot at Shot was that it is a tack driver! The trigger is also the BEST I have EVER felt out of a polymer pistol. It has a Glock like feel with a shorter reset and cleaner pull. This is right out of the box and imagine that after 500rds would clean up even more. The grip felt comfortable (HK P30 like), but the sights MUST GO. I am not sure if they are the same as on the P99 or not, but if they are then there is hope (as we can change them out). This pistol looks like a real winner to me as it combines all the things I like about HK and Glock pistols in one.

Elite Defense

Showed off their new throw lever optics mount. The levers look very well made, adjustable and strong (large clamping surface). Currently, their mounts are only available for scopes, but we hope to see other options out of them in the future.

Lone Wolf

They showed their AR lowers that accept Glock mags. Very nice and really like the large mag release button. I think these will be a hit with Glock owners that want to use their mags with their AR. We will be buying these lowers for sure.

Any idea what the retail will be on the Aimpoint PRO?

Thank you for the info, Grant. A slim-line M&P pistol sounds like a great addition to their line. The increased availability of Colt parts is also welcome. I’ll look forward to your announcement at the store.

The Lone Wolf lower that takes Glock mags will definitely sell. Let me know when you start offering a G&R custom package, to buy with the lower.

Hmmm - G&R parts kit, a Lone Wolf lower, custom-made SBR 10" upper… Yeah, that will sell.

That certainly looks like a interesting dinner party, with the guests you have pictured there.

They say $440 with a mount on Military Times Gear Scout. I’m pretty excited about them.

No kidding! I’ve never seriously considered pistol caliber SBR’d AR until now.

I do not, but my guess is somewhere in the $400 range.

We have ordered a lot of these.

I agree. I think we will be doing some neat combos in the near future.

The dinner party (which is done every year) is the highlight of the SS for me. Lot’s of good conversation, food and drinks.

C4

Just let me know when the presale is! Hopefully some funds will still be there.

From what I have read around the net and people that I have talked too, if I had to miss a SS it was a good one to miss.

Of course minus the comrade, dinners and parties.

The Aimpoint PRO looks like it might be a good deal for the money. We are getting ready to open up our policy to allow some personally owned optics on patrol rifles so I will have to pass this on.

I agree. I thought it was lame as hell this year. I’m glad it wasn’t just my bad attitude.

Grant

What is the machined slide M&P all about? What’s the difference between that and the current slides? Also do you know any more about the slim-line models? Will they have a shorter length as well?

Thanks!

Jeff

I can’t wait until Dawson Precision gets through with that 3V DG-X Light. For concealable 1911/DP Rail/Weaponlight systems, that is unbeatable (though the DG switch isn’t my favorite). I doubt I was alone in emailing a request for that concept, but it should be winner if the switching works right.

Once Crye has a brown offering of the mag clippper unit, I’ll probably pick up half a dozen of them - that’s a concept that just works, especially since it’s still compatible with ranger plates. I’m assuming they’ll have a .308 version along some time too… I just hope the idea catches on well enough to move to other detachable magazines (like the AI .308 ones, AK, Saiga12, or larger caliber mags)

Seriously interested in the LW AR lower. PM sent.

Was wondering that as well…machined for a red dot perhaps?

S&W is doing slides pre-cut for a RDS (like the RMR).

The slim models will be around 3.5" and be slimmer than a standard M&P . Capacity is 8 rounds.

C4

I’m all over one of the Lone Wolf lowers!

Grant - I need one of each!!

Interested on one of these…as well as the new RMR, Aimpoint Pros, the S&W MP22, the Lancer Mags, and the Cyre clips.

Grant do you happen to recall the MOA of the dots on the new RMRs?

I think it is 3.2 and 6.5.

Any new update on the availability of the skinny M&P’s?
