And it pretty much kicked my ass. Got about 6 rounds down range before I had to stop and reset my feet. It was pretty nice if you limit it to two and three round bursts. I was also amazed at how light it was. I was never really impressed by the looks of the rifle or the price, but I have to give it to FN. This thing runs good. I’ll post some pics later if you guys are interested.

In fairness, the G3’s delayed roller-locking system does very little to siphon off recoil energies mechanically. While I realize the weights between the two rifles (SCAR and G3) unbalance the issue, all things being equal a gas-retarded system will reduce felt recoil for the shooter.

I know, Ive shot my HK91 many times as well as many other 7.62 carbines. The fact is no matter what operating system you have, you cant change the physics of the 7.62 round…
Ummm, couldn’t tell how the accuracy was. It had an Eotech on it that was not sighted in, and the target was already annihilated from other shooters. It was an LE shoot where different reps came out to try to get us to buy fancy new stuff. So we basically just sent rounds down range from different systems (got to shoot a REPR too). I could tell that I was hitting a silhouette at about 40 yards with the two and three round bursts, but not sure exactly where.
This is the only pic my buddy has sent me. You can see some brass down by my thigh. This must have been when I was shooting it in bursts, because I wasn’t back on my heels shooting into the air.:eek:
In my humble opinion (I’m a civillian, but tried military FALs and G3s a few times) the problem is not controlling the rifle like a fire hose but hitting what you aim at with all shots fired… You can hit at extended ranges but how many shots after the first are going to be on target?
The real G3s do not recoil that bad, not much worse than a FAL that I can notice. You can hit a torso sized target at 12 yds with all shots. The recoil moves POI up and to the right for a RH shooter, so the problem is keeping the third shot inside, you have to start a little low. You also need a good, solid, feet well planted, forward leaning position, so IMO is not very practical because you won’t have that luxury in the real world.
I would love to hear other experiences on full auto 308s. For me it was just not practical at all.
Wow, that is a weird walk he has. Surely it helps with recoil control, but I can’t see how…
Sure some guy here or there can do trick shooting, but for soldiers .308 auto fire from an assault rifle is useless.
Your stance might have something to do with it. My stance is more aggressive than that when I’m shooting a semi-auto Kalashnikov. It isn’t an AR so don’t treat it like one.

As I said before, with proper technique it is not difficult to keep the rifles pointing in the direction of the target (I’m 6’ tall and 200 lbs, but many friends are smaller and don’t find it too difficult either).
But hitting the target with every shot fired IS very difficult… specially the third round.
A two round burst would be useful perhaps up to 25 yds or more, but no 308 rifle I know has a 2 round burst and it is very difficult to milk 2 rounds consistently in full auto in range conditions, probably impossible in real world conditions. A double tap in semi with a 308 is difficult, so perhaps a 2 round burst has some merit under some conditions. Of course, semi auto fire is much more accurate.
I don’t know why they make 308 light rifles with full auto, seems like a good way to waste bullets, and the mag has only 20 rounds.
But maybe someone has more experience and can come up with some justification.
At first glance, the overall profile of the SCAR-H with box magazine and stock fully extended is very reminiscent of the FN FAL 50.00 series. Go figure.

Stance may have had an impact on the ability to control the gun. A more aggressive stance with the the legs in a “fighting” position should have helped. In the pic, the legs are too far apart and the right leg should be further back.
