I’ve been thinking I should shorten the LOP on my remington 1100 race gun, that way my wife might be able to shoot it and I could leave it out as a “ready long gun.” I’m thinking it would handle better in general, and I’ve been shortening all stocks recently.
Anyone done a project like this?
I have indeed. However, because of the “receiver extension” that contains the action spring assembly, you can only cut so much. On my Premium 11-87, I had 1 inch cut off the OEM wood stock and the original Remington butt pad ground down to match. The LOP is now just under 13 inches.
I also had the 26" vent rib, pressure compensated barrel cut down to 18-3/4 inches, the RemChokes re-installed and a HiViz site installed (same one used on the 1100 Tac4) in place of the original front bead. The OAL is now 38 inches making it a fast handling HD shotgun that doesn’t have the typical “black tactical” look.

I’m looking at the Speedfeed youth stock, which has a 13" lop
I have the 13" Speedfeed and it is a nice stock. It’s lighter than the wood, but the wood and high gloss blue finish of the Premuim look great togther.
The 11-87 I’ve had for decades and should have the “HD conversion” done in a week or so, at which point I’ll post some pics.
The Speedfeed Youth setup is exactly what I switched to on my old 1100 skeet gun a few years ago. Also swapped out the wood forearm for the synthetic one. The fit was dead nuts on. I also felt that the texturing on the synthetic set was much better for grip. No complaints what so ever.
Sorry to drag this one back from the dead, but I’d like to know more about this barrel work you had done. Could you say who did the work? Got any pictures of it?

For the barrel work (and cutting the stock), I called around to shops in the New England area and found that Stateline Gun Shop could do the job. I am very pleased with the results.
