I built this gun for short to medium range varmit hunting but can also be used as a combat gun with different optics. It started out as a LE6520.
Specs:
Colt LE6520 lower
Colt flattop upper
Colt bolt carrier group
Colt lower parts
Colt four position buffer tube, spring, and H buffer.
Noveske Recon 16" midlength barrel with Colt A2 flash hider
Daniel Defense 10" Lite rail
Vltor/BCM gunfighter charging handle #4
SOPMOD buttstock
Troy front and rear BUIS with M4 eared front
Magpul XTM rail panels
Harris 9-13 SLM bipod
ADM bipod mount
Tango Down BG-17 grip
Geissele 2 stage adjustable trigger
Gear Sector female rail mounted QD sling socket
Optics:
Leupold 6.5-20 x 40 VXIII with duplex reticle
ADM Recon mount 30mm
I usually try to build every carbine off a LE6520 lower due to the neutral rollmark.
I know the optic is slightly overkill but was chosen to zoom in on baby prairie dogs.
Zeroed 1" high at 100 yards. Can get a .5" group if you are good.
VERY NICE! Put a low power scope on it and you’ve got a excellent RECCE.
Looking good! The 16" Recon works very well for varmint slaying… With a low power fixed or variable optic that would indeed make an excellent Recce.
Out of curiosity why is your front sight mounted where it is and oriented “backwards”? Ability to add a 12:00 light in the future if you take the scope off?

Its so you can mount a X300 in front of the front sight if different optics are used.
That’s what I figured… I really like the build, have fun smokin’ some dogs with that thing!
Journal Date 1614611,
While relaxing in a forum full of highly intelligent gun nuts, I have made the discovery of a scientific life time…
Scope-envy exists! Not only does it exist, but I seem to have contracted it! Nobel prize, here I come!
No; seriously, VERY nice build.
We shot this 3 shot group yesterday at 100 yards.
55 gr Hornady V-Max
A single 3 shot group, very nice!
Next varmint build you do, I’d recommend the Leupold 6.5-20 with Boone and Crockett varmint reticle. It made using my 22-250 bolt gun even more like cheating.
