Short Colt 9mm barrels...anybody know of a source?

I’ve got a 6951 on the way, and plan on SBR’ing. Does anyone know of a source of the shorter Colt barrels–10" or 7.5"?

Thanks,

Dan

There not Colt but Grant sells 10in. BCM barrels. http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=9MM-BCM

Appreciate the headsup. I assume since they’re blow-back operated that no other changes are needed?

Another non-Colt option is Adco.

Adco 9mm Barrels

TROS doesn’t have any in stock, but knows a dealer that has a few available.
Green Mountain has a run scheduled for sometime in January, 10.5" IIRC, so you’d have to cut it down from there if you wanted shorter.

correct

Is any one brand “better” than the other?

I mean, I know in precision rifles, there’s definitely a difference, and a Broughton or Krieger is worth the price difference over a Douglas or ER Shaw, but in a short barreled rifle with a pistol round, does it really matter? Differences in function or longevity?

I wish that these were coming out in chrome lined, but they look like an interesting barrel.

I had a RRA 10.5 barrel on my old 9mm setup. The RRA barrels are even threaded 1/2x36, just like the factory Colt barrels.

JR1572

Just got mine in the mail from Grant. This is a really nice barrel.

I really wish they made these in 7.5".

Just received notice that my Green Mountain barrels shipped.

Barrels on any flavor are hard to come by now-a-days. I had my 10" BCM out this afternoon and this is the top of the heap 9mm barrel. If you are interested in a 7.5" I would get one while you can from Grant and have it cut down. It is very nice.

Hunt used. Find someone selling a take off RRA, etc. I lucked into a short Noveske 9mm barrel a short while back.

Probably a lot simpler just to let ADCO cut it; I had a local machinist do mine.
Not sure that shorter than 10.5" is worth the trouble; you get a real velocity boost out of the longer tube, which is plenty short enough to be handy.
I’m using irons, so that is two reasons not to go shorter, at least for me.

Isn’t that the truth. I may just pick up a BCM barrel and send it to get cut down here in the near future. There was a Noveske 7.5 barrel in the EE not long ago that I should have snagged but didn’t. I really wish I would have got it now. I just can’t bring myself to cut down the original 16" barrel that came with my Colt.

Ah, it’s not that much of a collector’s item, and if you replicate the Colt Subgun in barrel config, you won’t hurt the value.

It’s such a pain in the ass to do anything gunwise right now; tried to call Colt today to check on a replacement sight for a pistol, and couldn’t even get a call thru’.

I think I’m going with TROS. 7.5" threaded 1/2-28. Ordered a SWR Octane 45 this morning as well. Writing $400 in checks to the gubment sure sucks!

With getting a can- who want’s a velocity boost when a 5" barrel will keep standard ammo nice and quiet?

Not the same question at all. I want all the horsepower (and hence velocity) available from the venerable 9mm; if you’re looking to suppress it, just the opposite is true.
When the current nonsense settles down, I may explore a second upper for my SBR set up for a ‘silencer’. Have to admit that using standard 9mm ammo, instead of special heavy-bullet stuff, has its appeal.
How much racket does the sonic boom really make?
