Has anyone got any experience with the Shootrite Katana? IF so, what are your thoughts? Thanks!
Link?
I got to the Model 1 Sales E.R. Shaw barrel, vomited in my mouth and then forgot about it.

That Sir, was hilarious.
Sounds like either a fairly solid negative or, perhaps, great excitement.
How is that worth anywhere close to what they are asking?![]()
Red Jacket is known for AK rifles and shotguns. I guess they want in on the AR world. I am surprised nobody on theakforum.net has brought this one up yet. They are not a fly by night operation.
That looks like a very expensive parts gun.
$1849.95 for a basic frankengun!? I’ll take BCM and the other top mfgrs over this dull Katana anyday.
I like the concept, but the execution is sub-par.
“ShootRite Katana” Upper only: $1249.95:confused:
A similarly configured BCM 16" Lightweight Middy or Lightweight Carbine gas system upper receiver built-up with the following parts list comes in at $150 LESS than the “ShootRite Katana” upper:
*BCM 16" Lightweight Mid-Length or Carbine gas system upper
*BCM F/A BCG
*PRI Carbon Fiber Free-Float handguard (Carbine or Mid-Length)
*Daniel Defense 1.5 rear sight
*BCM GunFighter charging handle
*BCE “BattleComp” 1.0 muzzle device
Total: $1100.00

I just watched the episode of Suns of Guns in which they are approached by Tiger McKee from ShootRite Firearms Academy to build his (Tiger’s) ShootRite Katana rifle design. According to the episode, it was Tiger who provided the specs for each an every part. It was an effort to get the rifle under 5 or 6 pounds.
But considering some of the parts listed as used, and the price at which it retails. I could build the same thing with just as good or better parts and achieve the same thing for much less.
It appears to be a carbine length upper with an A2 stock. I wonder if this design achieves the same net effect of the VLTOR A5 system?
The fixed stock was probably for ban state compliance. Some had Moe stocks. $1850  $850  My LW BCM middy Moe build came in at about a grand give or take before I took off the DD rear sight and added a TA 33.
edit: A2 FSB…??? non F marked
edit 2: why do the producers have make every show so overly dramatic, I have to puke and change the channel.
edit 3: how cheesy to steal the name from the Katana picture (was it Magpuls or Vltors, I can’t remember? )
I just watched that episode as well. Even without knowing the specifics of the gun I about choked when I heard him say $1800
.
The Katana is a super deal…
…compared to the $1800 “Accurized” Oly they had on their website a few weeks ago. ![]()

This jumble of weak ass parts is deserving of a bitch slap. They should stick to AK’s and nothing but AK’s if that is what they do well. The AR world doesn’t need yet another failed attempt from an unproven manuf. of AR’s. Matter of fact Red hacker needs to stay away from explosives and shotguns, they are unsafe amateurs.
It’s way over priced. The show is a little much, it would be much cooler just to see an average, run of the mill day there. The awkward drama about petty things to make a “show” are way over the top.
welcome to reality tv. people who watch it for the cool stuff (be it guns, cars, bikes, whatever) hate the drama crap. but the other half of their audience watches just for the drama.
On the show, they pushed the 6LB rifle idea, but there’s no listing of that exceptional light weight on the sales site. Hmmmmm… think they missed the mark?
