shooting at Fort Knox?

Anybody know more?

I’m sure just more “workplace violence” from a white male.

Stay tuned . . .

Kill whitey!

This was my previous duty station and unit of assignment, so I’m obviously following it more closely than most.

My guess would be something domestic going down in the parking lot, but the lack of detail provided to this point makes me wonder if it might not be more involved.

Sad to see, in any event, as HRC’s military contingent tends to represent the best of the best Army-wide, given that most serve as assignment managers for the rest of the force. That doesn’t come with any universal guarantees of popularity, of course, but I’ve never heard of any serious violence directed against the command or its people over the years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitey_Ford_Sings_the_Blues What did Whitey ever do to you??:jester: Back to the thread…Man, you gotta be a brave one to try something at FT Knox. Isn’t there a tank school there? What exactly would have been the plan, just sneak past the thousands of soldiers and their tanks…:big_boss:

Something domestic def. makes more since… Great to see ya Chief.

The Armor School moved to Fort Benning in 2010, as the Human Resources Command moved in. Aside from regular range activity, it’s a relatively pacified place with few combat troops today – just a brigade or two.

It occurs to me, I may have come across as uncaring. This is yet another tradgety. I don’t understand what is going on with these base shootings or any of them for that matter.

More details coming now. Civilian worker (male) fatally shot in the HRC parking lot by an unknown assailant who apparently fled the scene on a motorcycle. Looks like a personal incident, rather than a random attack.

About what we expcted, but still a sad day for Team Knox.

Wrong Whitey. I was thinking more the scene in Black Sheep. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sheep_(1996_film)

Thanks for the update AC.

Good to hear there were not more injured.

Everybody wants to kill Whitey but he was one of the Beaver’s best friends!

I still can’t beleive they did that. That is like a crime against nature.

Sorry to tell you guys, but this is unpossible; military bases are federally restricted and controlled “gun free zones”.

Typos brought to you via Tapatalk and autocorrect.

Good point, I wonder if they and the fed for that matter could save money on fire suppression systems like extinguishers and the like in all federal buildings just by putting up signs that say “Fire Free Zone”. Signs like that possess magical abilities don’t ya know…

  • 1 BCT (one of the 1AD’s)
  • HRC
  • Recruiting Command

Army Chief, didn’t all BCT also leave?

Jeez I’ve walked Agony and Misery enough times…and ran most of the Main Gun ranges at one time or another.

Watching the Armor School go to Benning and be absorbed was painful a lot of history.

Sounds to me like a jealous boyfriend/husband getting revenge for an office romance…

Well…looks like they have a suspect in custody…

How much you wanna bet it’s over a piece of ass?

Victim identified. Sadly, this was someone that I knew well, as he worked near me in the Artillery section of Officer Personnel Management Division. He was an early mover to Fort Knox when the command relocated from Alexandria (VA), so most of the officer management folks knew him from the setup work he did as well. Definitely a “can do” type.

I won’t pretend to know what (if anything) he may have gotten himself into, but in the interest of respecting his memory, I will say that he was one of those guys that always struck me as very squared away in both appearance and demeanor (very clean-cut black guy around 50). Lloyd had a ready smile, an infectious laugh and a reputation for superior competence on the job. I’m sure the Redlegs in OPMD will miss him greatly, along with the rest of the team there.

No need for condolences, as our relationship was really just professional. Simply updating the thread and paying tribute to the fallen.

My oversight. Yes, the Basic Combat Training units were all moved as well. It was very quiet over there during my last year or so. The post is essentially just a recruiting and personnel center now, though the ranges still provide some great regional training opportunities for units from elsewhere.

As for the likely triggering mechanism for this tragedy, I suspect we’re all on the same page, though I wouldn’t have immediately gone there based upon my knowledge of the deceased. I suppose any of us is capable of most anything under the right/wrong circumstances, and while most still stay the course at home, some wives of our deployed soldiers do present the wrong kinds of opportunities in their lonely moments. Dealng with the consequences later on is never pleasant for anyone.

Well on a lighter note, Chief you being a CW5 I was wondering if you have ever been inside either the vault lobby or perhaps even the vault itself?

*If someone snuck you in just answer “I can’t recall” and we’ll deduct that you honestly forgot.
