Shooting .22LR through a 30 Cal can: Yay or Nay?

Im going to get a dedicated .22LR can, most likely a DeadAir Mask, in the meantime, if is a terrible idea to shoot .22LR through my SandmanS? I have a .22 conversion kit for my SBR, so far I have shot it without the can to be safe but was wondering if I can use the can.

My worry is about how dirty .22 is and the inability to disassemble the can to clean it.

“They say” it’s foolish to do so.

The Rugged Oculus22 deserves consideration too.

It seems to have some advantages over the excellent DA Mask.

I do it through my 9mm cans, but they both disassemble. Not being to disassemble the cans would make me a bit more hesitant.

Same as above. I would not if you cannot clean it.

If it’s safe to ‘dip’ the can, who cares?

I rarely, and I mean rarely, pop off a 22lr sub through my AAC M4-2000. The AAC brake should take most of the beating and I only do it to pop an armadillo at night and grin at the quietness. I bet I shoot five hundred 5.56 rounds for every one 22lr sub through the can. No problems thus far.

Like you, I need to get a serviceable 22 can.

I did it with a sealed 5.56 can and found that bits of the lead that coated the inside of the can broke off and became projectiles, when shooting 5.56, that put pits and dings in the baffles and end cap.

I say don’t do it unless it’s some kind of emergency.

Seems like I should order a .22 can sooner rather than later. Thanks everyone!

Yes nice to have, just sux the stamp cost around the same amount as can. I have a Surefire on SW AR 22, runs like a sewing machine. Mine def needs cleaning as I have never done so.

You can form1 one in less than 30 days. Pretty simple to build for rimfire.

True, but once you are into the kit like a JK Armament one you’re double the cost of a .22 can + stamp. Is there another kit? I never really looked for .22 kits.

Only one? Number 7 just went in jail a month or so ago.

It’s not so much about the cost as it is the ability to have your can in hand in quickly. For a 22lr can, I wouldn’t think twice about going the form-1 route.

Because of this.
And the dip is not something I want to deal with.

Coincidently I found them this weekend. Seems like they wont ship until you have a Form1 approved which is rather annoying. Im thinking of getting a .22 and 9mm kit from them.

It’s what the came up with to avoid getting ATF’s d1ck broken off in their @$$.
