Has anyone ever shipped a firearm Fedex? I recently sold two guns that I’ll need to ship soon. Both are being sent to FFLs that will accept shipment from an non FFL holder.
Fedex’s web sight says it’s fine where not prohibited.
What I’m wondering is how do I cover my own ass? What info from who I’m sending it to (FFL) should I take note of and retian? Is there a way to confirm they are actually licenced? Anything else I should know?
When I ship as an individual I always use FedEx. All firearms always go overnight with signature confirmation. Prior to sending I request a copy of the FFL to where it is going. I keep the copy of the FFL and a copy of the overnight slip with a screen shot of the delivery/signature confirmation. If requested, I will supply a copy of my DL (Sensitive information blacked out) inside the box with the firearm.
Though it ads cost on your end for the overnight, I feel better knowing that I have done everything I can to ensure a timely delivery in the most secure method I can.

I always ship through UPS. Other people have told me FedEx is a good way to ship. CMP ships hundreds of Garands per week via FedEx if that tells you anything.
It’s not that big of a deal and if you do things by the numbers you should not experience any problems.
I’ve shipped several pistols through FEDEX. You can go to the ATF website and verify that the FFL you’re shipping the gun to is legitimate by entering the FFL number.

Insured the package for the full price of the gun. When you hand over the shipment form, FEDEX will give you the copy of the shipment form.
Before all the above happens, have the funds from the buyer in hand or cashed at a financial institution. After that, ship away.

As a non FFL all you need to do is verify their license. You are not required to obtain an actual copy.
That seems pretty simple. Last thing I want is someone knocking on my door telling me a broke some laws.

What kind of firearms? You (non FFL licensee) can ship rifles/shotguns via USPS which can be cheaper than overnight FedEx. Handguns can only be shipped via USPS by FFL hoders. Alternatively, you can transfer them to a local FFL who will then ship them to you.

Ship via Fedex regularly. In fact, most call tags I receive for guns are for Fedex shipping. Easy process.
Can it be shipped ground? Do I need to tell them at Fedex whats in the box? Thier website says not to mark or label it as a firearm but will they need to know at the counter?
Yes. In fact do yourself a favor and just create a UPS account online. Print your label at home and tape it to the box. You can schedule a pickup for about $12 or save the money and drop it off at a UPS store. You don’t need to state what it is, even if you insure it.
Personally, I always tell them that it’s a firearm. Handguns are required to ship overnight. Since you said it’s a lower, tell them it’s a rifle and they will allow you to ship via a slower process therefore not as expensive as over night.
