Shhhhhhhhhhhh ;)

Hello all,

I updated my original post with some SCAR 16 upgrades… and noticed I may have had it on the wrong thread… anyway here it is. I have it next to an M25 (18" Barrel) and P226 Navy purely to show scale.

Well …I could say that I am done with modding this… Buuuut I would be lying…lol
…OMG it’s a sickness :laugh::rolleyes:

FNSCAR 16s
10.5" barrel
Surefire 556-212 supressor
Surefire adapter
Tango down short vertical grip QD
Surefire QD rail adapter
Surefire 300x Ultra
Knights Armament rail covers
Surefire ladder rail covers
PEQ-2A
Magpul safety
Magpul Miad grip
Aimpoint M4s with Larue Mount

******* UPDATE*******
I thought I would post the updates on my SCAR 16S
VLTOR Stock Adaptor , IMOD Stock , and Milspec extension Tube (extra swivel point on Adaptor For my single point A.R…M.S. Sling)
I found an old MIAD grip in black so I added to the DE
Surefire X300 Ultra
Elite Iron Suppressor Cover
Geissele Super SCAR Trigger.

*** FAILURE***
I was zeroing for 300yds and my 3 shot group turned into a 5 shot mess. I noticed that the OEM front stews wavering from side it side about 1-2mm and probably shifting with each recoil. I removed the front and rear iron sites and replaced them with
A.R.M.S. 40L & 40L R B.U.I.S. ( co-witnessing with M4)

Well, she’s a dual purpose rife now …a HOG/Coyote day/night rifle with the PVS 14 & PEQ-2a.

That SCAR is freakin sweet!!! I am jelous:D

Quite. That’s sick

Sickness, obsession, disease or love. Really hard to tell. And if you lose control it leaves you divorced.

Luckily, I’m not there yet.

***** Update ****

ROUND EXPENDATURE
I fired roughly 2000rds at my clubs Green Mountain Boys Shooting Clubs (GMBSC) Annual Machine-gun Shoot in Eden VT last weekend. The rifle cycled without a single malfunction … Also no FTF… but 1 minor FAIL.

OPTICS
After previous repeated removal of the Aimpoint Comp4s with Larue QD Mount with no noticeable POI shift.

ACCURACY
Several hundred rounds where fired by myself & this weeks competitive Camp Perry Shooters, using my POI Battle sight picture of my Aimpoint Comp4s and or co-witnessed with A.R.M.S.40L B.U.I.S. scoring hits at 100yrds on clay pigeons from the standing position , at will… to included the shattered remnants.

Magazines:
30rd USGI OK (Colt) Mag with MagPul Follower (green tip ammo)
20rd USGI COLT Mag with original metal follower old … (1988) subsonic ammo)

FAILURE:
I was 40-50 round into the firing session and the EliteIron Suppressor Cover Caught on fire and had to be cut off. The EliteIron Suppressor Cover inner surface completely melted to my Suppressor and the exterior including whatever amount of Nomex that was used in this Suppressor Cover went up in smoke. I have since been informed/told, by the manufacture that their Suppressor covers are intended to " Help negate …mirage , not full auto fire " . They must have assumed since I said was at “my clubs Machine-Gun Shoot” I as firing full auto as I was informed that their "suppressor cover is not rated full auto . That is a NEGative …my rate of fire was suppressive fire at best.

“MELTDOWN”
EliteIron has offered a one time replacement of my purchase. I will not be taking them up on that offer as i would be a waste of both of our time and resources as this will just happen again using EliteIrons product incorrectly as I did.

Instead I will be trying out fellow shooter at the Green Mountain Boys Shooting Club (G.M.B.S.C.) Machine gun shoot 2016 Cole-Tac High Temperature Cover. Range report will follow next years GMBSC Machine Gun Shoot 2017.

After pic …and she is “no worse for wear”.

Elite Iron lists the covers being made of material that can withstand 1200 degrees F. Was your suppressor at ambient temperature before you started shooting? 50 shots of 5.56 should not bring the suppressor up to 1200 degrees F. More like 400-500 degrees F.

Dang she’s sweet

I have some RIFLES ONLY covers that can take heavy use. The only downside is the cans don’t cool off. For Bolt guns and precision work, those covers do help a great deal with mirage. Elite Iron are pretty good folks to offer. Have them send it to me:cool:

PB

My SCAR was at ambient temp on the firing line … 1ish… 20rd. mag of subsonic and 1 full 30rd mag of green tip at a covering fire cadence. I do not have a titanium can I have the SureFire 556-212. the line had JUST gone hot. and …poof. Oh well it happened … no big deal …I get it they are Mirage assisting mitigators not thermal control covers. no big deal. now I know I cannot fire my M25 at a high rate …just target zeroing.

A range report (first one btw) that spans from the beginning to the end of a 4ish year break-in period you take the good with the bad… the fact is that 10.5" barrel was nailing it from the standing position from the 1st round to the 2000+

As for the silencer cover…No harm, no foul

Its all good ,
Doc

Thank you … her name is “FlapJacks”

Hello all,
Well the goal was to lighten up the SCAR I think this will be the final configuration … unless I go on a night hunt for Hogs/Coyotes I will not be using the PEQ2A & NOG.

Doc

Ivreceived the Cole-Tac Suppressor Cover Saturday…not only Made in the U.S.A. …It is Handmade right here in my home state of New Hampshire :o For research sake I mag dumped 30 rounds at as close to simulating “full auto” as I could. No… Melting/ Smoking and no remnants of cover sleeve seared to the can.

I will be painting on the next hot day… Update soon.
