shellback banshee plate carrier

I have searched it on here but barely any results… first i can pay out 200 or more for a plate carrier .im newly married and on a buget… i am runing a chest rig over soft armor right now but would like to switch to a plate carrier with hard plates. How do this pc hold up? Are they comfortable to wear? I found one for sale at skd for 127 dollars.is that fair priced?

I love mine. I have only had it out a few times to the range. I will be getting a work out at my next class at the end of June.

You can search and see there a few threads on this topic.

But since I’m here, I ran the banshee in a class and a few shoots, so I wore it for about 30 or so hours all together. It only lasted one day of a two day class. And the shoots were slow paced so I was not shouldering the rifle all the time.

I would suggest not going for it. It was very difficult to get a good stock seat, almost impossible in different positions since it kept moving on me. It almost fell off once I was shooting in a weird position. After a little while some of the seams started to fray. I sold it after that.

Save your cash buy a better piece of kit. PIG, First Spear, Tyr, LBT, and the like.

No issues with mine though a few classes. They are not top-notch quality but the price does reflect that. I didn’t know what I wanted when I bought mine and would rather spend $130 then $400+ on something I might not want.

what other PCs do you have that you are comparing this against?

Tyr BPC, a few LE overt PC’s Ive used over the years, LBT and First Spear.

Also the SKD PIG I’ve tried on a few times and it felt 200x better than the banshee.

thanks. this is good info to know…

I just got my Banshee back from a Marine buddy of mine and after wearing the Eagle CIRAS and SPCs for three years now, I prefer my Banshee over the other two. The Banshee is as minimal as you could get for a “classic” style plate carrier with enough MOLLE for mag pouches and other essentials.

When you adjust the cummerbund bungees correctly, the plate carrier feelings like a second skin. Breathing is comfortable, fit is comfortable, and most importantly the weight and distribution is even and comfortable. Weighed down with front and rear plates plus mags, my Banshee is significantly lighter than the SPC loaded with the same kit.

The only gripe I have with the Banshee is the lack of proper shoulder padding, however Shellback Tactical released upgraded pads to fix this issue. For the price of the plate carrier and the quality of the fit and finish, you can’t go wrong with it.

Can you elaborate a little more on what happened here? I read a lot of reviews that said this PC was well made and saw a lot of ‘bomb proof’ comments as well. I have tried one on (5’10" , 185lbs) and it fit really well when adjusted. I did not get to run, shoot, etc so who knows but the fit/comfort seemed good to me.

It is well made, I have no issues with its quality. The design needs work.

The biggest issue for, was the additional stitching on the part that connects the top of the plate pocket to the plastic clip.

So if you look at the picture see the 0pos, to the top right of it, there is stitching and then it follows the shoulder supports up from there. I could not for the life of me get a good rifle stock seat because of that. I am not that massive of a guy either, 6’0 180, but this was ridiculous.

Only reason I bought one was because it was $86.xx shipped on a black friday sale a few years back. Since then I tried other PC’s and the difference is night and day.

Disclaimer: I’m not LEO or active MIL.

I do experience this when I do dry fire. I can see this, as a problem, for the more active shooter. I have to fiddle for a spot before I can even properly aim.

Hoping for ammo to become available so I can see, how the recoil would have an impact on me with this PC.

The price point was final reason I purchase this. Do wish, I bought this @ $80, since I bought two of this PC.

Thanks for the clarification. I ordered this from Dvor for $99 with $25 off of that as well. I tried on a buddies and like the fit but I did struggle with getting a good fit in the shoulder pocket when I shouldered a rifle. I only got to mess around for a few minutes before I had to run so I thought that after using mine when it arrives that I’d get used to it but it sounds like I need to rethink that.

I have a Crye JPC on order that is due to ship in July as well so this might be the route I go if the JPC is a good fit. I am going to set this one up for the wife, does anyone know if TAG makes a molle compatible sandwhich maker? I kid, I kid

Again, I do not want to make it out to seem TAG makes bad kit, I am just posting my personal experience with it.

As I stated, I ran the PC in a two day class, the first day I spent slapping the stock on my SCAR into place, my times suffered. Second day I dropped the PC and amazing, had no issues. I ran the banshee in a few shoots and training sessions, I had similar issues and then came the shoulder pain.

I’ve been training with a Banshee for about 4 months now, and am very pleased with it. It’s well built and is adequately comfortable, especially considering the price point. I haven’t had any issues with fabric fraying or stitching failing either. Like Voodoo said, obtaining a solid stock weld can be a little troublesome (especially in awkward positions), but it’s possible to work around it and it becomes less of an issue over time.

Overall, for a budget plate carrier, I think the Banshee is hard to beat.

I got a banshee when it first came out because of the price and have been satisfied with it. however, by the time you add some of the other stuff that come standard on more expensive carriers (think shoulder pads and PIG pontoons) that difference starts to shrink.

it’s a great entry level carrier that allows someone without any experience to get into the game…

I bought one about a year ago because of the price as well. I am happy with mine but as others have stated it is hard to get a good stock weld. I took it to a 3 day HSP class and by the second day I found my sweet spot but it is definitely not as easy as shooting with no PC though. But for the price, I am happy.

Do you find that you need shoulder pads with the Banshee? If so, which shoulder pads are you using?

I never saw the need for them, but the longest I’ve worn the rig all loaded up was six hours or so. Any longer than that and I could see someone wanting additional padding.

The Banshee is a great budget or entry level carrier. I would look at a TYR BPC or for a bit more $$ a GPC. The best bang for the buck is the PIG hands down. I have owned a Banshee and PIG but not a TYR carrier but I own quite a few of their pouches and IMO TYR makes probably the finest gear I have used. There are quite a few other quality carriers out there like First Spear, BFG, LBT etc.

Just decide what you need from a carrier and find one the best fits those needs and you can’t go wrong (unless you choose Condor or something :sarcastic:).
