I want one of these but I can’t decide and I can only have one which will be my only AK for a while. I really like the looks and feel of the SA M7, but I would have to change out the NATO stock to a Warsaw length at some point. I also like the SGL 21 but when compared to the SA M7, I’m luke warm about it. The price tag of the SA M7 doesn’t scare me if it gets me a better rifle, however, the difference in price between it and the SGL 21 equates to a lot of mags and ammo.
Would I be as equally well served by the SGL 21 as the SA M7? Which would be more accurate? Is there any difference in quality? Do I have to worry about a canted front sight or the typical issues associated with an AK if I go with an SGL 21? Which one would you guys go with?
I own several of the arsenal sgl’s, 20, 21, and 31. All arrived with no issues. Aesthetics aside, I think you are well served with the sgl’s, less weight and faster cooling of the receiver coming to mind. That said, my favorite Arsenal is hands down my slr107 ur.
IMHO go with the SGL 21, these are as close to a real Russian made AK as you will get short of a miracle on Captial Hill. With the money you will save buy ammo and quality mags. Then go shoot frequently. Concerning accuracy…there both AKs it’s really up to the shooter to get the lead on target.
Stopped by the gun shop to take a look at the SGL 20 they had in stock…
Ended up buying a DSA SA58 with 18" barrel. :o They knocked $200 off the price and I couldn’t pass it up.
As far as the SGL 20 was concerned, the stock was a little off kilter and angled to the right and the front sight was a little canted to the left. I’ve decided that I’m not going to be buying any AKs unless I get a chance to examine them first.
I’ve been lucky in that every single SGL I’ve ever ordered (more than 50) has not had any canting issues. But buying in person is a wise choice if you can.
Between the two I generally prefer the AKM (SGL20/21) to the milled series.
