Just got a new SF X300 today with the 170 lumen rating. It is my first SF weapon light in the X series. Might be a dumb question but here goes: Is everyone utilizing the included small black cotter key/pin to secure the battery cover latch? I’ve seen a light of them being used without, the paperwork shows it in use, and was wondering what the consensus was on it. Thanks

I don’t; I find that it interferes with some of my holsters.
Are you using it on a carbine or handgun?
IMO it is unnecessary mounted to a handgun, assuming the rear hatch is secure against the trigger gaurd.
Even mounted to a carbine, I’ve never seen a hatch pop. I assume it couldn’t hurt though…
I’ve never used the pin.
Forgot to specify, it’s for handgun. If it works out good, gonna get another one for the carbine to try. I’m used to the TLR-1’s we use at work, so the X300 was a bit different. Thanks for the assist!
i use them on long guns, i don’t on handguns, as the door is held against the triggerguard
Mine is on for all use. That is the only way I can ensure I never lose it.
I have one on both my duty pistol and carbine, but dont use the lever on either. On the carbine, the back is snug up against the front sight. I did have an issue with it fitting on my 1911, had to dremel the rear abit to get it to fit properly.
All 4 of my X300’s are either butting up against a trigger guard or DD front sight.
