I’m contemplating purchasing a 22lr can for moderate use through a trust. Looking at the SF Ryder 22A. Being it’s aluminum so I’m guessing ultrasonic cleaning isn’t going to happen. They’ve been out for a while but very sparse on reviews. I’m looking at this can since it is available at a very reputable lgs. Appreciate input from experienced users. Silencerco Spectre II is the other choice I’m looking at.
I have the spectre II and can highly recommend it. Especially if you are going for moderate to high use I would stay away from aluminum. Good for weight. Bad for cleaning and longevity. At least in my opinion.
Thanks Temp, the Spectre II is a little less expensive and all SS, 3.x onces more. I’m really not concerned with weight as much as longevity.
The click together baffles of the spectre makes it very easy to take apart (they come out of the tube very easy). I also have the ss sparrow which is slightly shorter and a hair wider. I have yet to decide which of the two I prefer
I just received a Spectre ii and Surefire Ryder 22a about a week and a half ago. I bought the Surefire Ryder 22a for the M&P 22 compact pistol and I’m glad I went with the Ryder over the Spectre because on a light .22 pistol, the extra weight of the Spectre would really annoy me. On the M&P 15-22 SBR, not so much…
Surefire stands behind their stuff, I’d buy the Ryder 22a with confidence.
I think Surefire is coming out with a Ryder 22 that uses stainless baffles this year. It was mentioned in a youtube video and is supposed to be slightly quieter (2db or so) but heavier (5oz).
It’s a pretty short vid but Garin starts talking about the Ryder 22 at the 2:50 mark.
Do yourself a favor and make sure you get stainless baffles in whatever you choose. MUCH easier to clean and deal with than aluminum (I have silencers with both). Stainless can use harsher chemicals, ultrasonics, wet pin tumbling, and “The dip” (if you choose). So much easier. I just throw my baffles in my wet pin tumbler (stainless steel pins, water and dawn dish soap) and let them spin until clean.
If you want light and quiet, check out the AAC Element 2. 3oz and super quiet and still uses stainless baffles. The K baffles will be a little harder to remove when dirty, however, it comes with a pusher tool to get them out.
The Spectre II is a great choice that’s a little heavier at 6oz but will be easier to take apart because of the CTA baffles.
Liberty also has a new 22 silencer that is supposed to be nice and quiet as well.
Personally, though, I’d go Spectre II because of the CTA baffles and a little more versatility (more calibers IIRC)
As for the 3oz vs 6oz. My 22 silencer uses steel baffles and is 6oz. I don’t even notice it on pistols. Lighter is nice, but 6oz isn’t really heavy either. My friend wanted as light as possible so he went with the Element.

Looking at 22LR cans has been rough. Spectre II, Warlock II, Sparrow, and now the Liberty Regulator have all been the one I was going to get. I will man up and order something next month. If the SS Ryder comes out I will look at it, but based on the prices for their current 22A I will probably look elsewhere.
The Ryder 22-S is out and dealers should be getting them in stock already as a lot of them have cleared the form 3.
Wish I knew that this Sunday…
