Well, I decided that I wanted a Serbu Super Shorty, until I saw that they cost 1500 dollars. There’s almost nothing to this gun, it shouldn’t cost 350 dollars. Is there anybody else out there making something like this as an AOW? I want one bad, but not for that money…
I know this doesnt help much, but my LGS had a similar SBS for 600.
The TAC2 “super shotty” is a little less expensive but it’s still up there
I did one for a customer a few years back on his mossberg cruiser.
I’d have to pull it up to see what I charged, but he had nowhere near $1500 in it.
Also, we do have a customer with an actual Serbu super shorty he wants to sell, but he hasn’t said a price to me as of yet.
Eta: I will add that all of the parts, the grip, action slider part that the grip is attached to, and the new barrel ring must be custom made. These are not “off the shelf” parts. You could price them from a machine shop. Not counting welding and refinishing, and a base gun, which must have shipped from the factory with a pg to start with.

So if I were to DIY this, I would have to have a machinist make a custom foregrip and slider and chop the gun, and then I could submit the AOW paperwork myself?
From what I understand if you do it yourself it’s $200 not $5. Even if you find a virgin receiver.
Well, you do the paperwork first, and once it comes back approved, then you can chop. You could make the parts, but don’t go cutting the barrel.
And yes, to form 1 an aow is $200, to transfer it is $5.
We registered it, and then f4 it back to the customer.

Well then that totally defeats the purpose of that. I am seeing auctions on GB for factory Remington and Mossberg guns that are being bid for somewhere in the 500 range, which beats the hell out of a brand new Serbu Super Shorty.
I can see what the guy I know wants for his if you wish, but if you are not in VA, there will be a transfer fee in your state.
I would say that if you can get one for $500ish, you should. The gun alone carries half that price. I don’t know anyone who would do that much custom work for the other half.

I attempted the same thing to try to get a reasonably priced sheer shorty. Between parts, machining and the $200 stamp it was net worth it when my lgs had one for $900 with a $5 aow stamp. They are out there for ~$900. I think Serbu does manufacturing runs. When there is plenty of product out there, the prices are reasonable. When it gets this, they get marked up. I would wait it out and see if you can find a factory gun cheaper.
