I think trio’s answer above is spot-on. I have a P-2000,(9mm) with a light LEM, It’s always been reliable, and accurate. However, in my case, I’ve never been able to get used to the long trigger pull of the HK, even after lots of dry fire practice, and a couple thousand rounds of ammo. For me, to shoot the P-2000 well, I really have to concentrate. I also have a midsize .45 with a Apex DCAEK installed,For whatever reason I shoot the .45 better than the 9mm. After checking out another midsize with a Apex FSS installed, that’s where I’m going next. IMO, a m&p.45 set up like that, with decent NS would be very difficult to beat. Accuracy wise, everything I’ve read leads me to believe that they’re both(HK45c M&P.45mid) pretty evenly matched. My own experiences with it, have shown it(M&P) to be very accurate, head shots on some cardboard IDPA targets at 25yds are done without alot problems, (Not that that means alot, but it does to me,when I did this a couple of weeks ago, that was the first time I’d shot the M&P in about 6 months,as I’d been concentrating on the P-2000) The downside here is,(provided you decided to go this route in the first place)by the time you install the FSS, and possibly/probably change out the factory sights, you’ll have as much invested in the m&p as what a HK would cost…The upside,is the pistol would be finished, and should need nothing but shot…alot. The HK comes with those oddball “glow in the dark” night sights, which need to asorb light from another light source to get them to glow. Most people pull them off and throw in the trash, and get something decent. Should you decide to get a trigger job for it, For God’s sake, Don’t sent it to Springfield…He’s cheap, but, you get what you pay for. Bruce Gray at Greyguns is the best for Hk trigger work, He’s not cheap, but then again, you won’t be sending your HK back to HK to have hammer sear, etc, replaced after your pistol decided to start doubling after a few hundred rounds, either.
As Trio said, why not keep them both? That would give you a unique opportunity to compare them both side by side, and see which one YOU like…Frankly as much as I like HK’s, I can’t justify the prices for them, I’ll probably keep my P-2000, I know I can shoot it reasonably well and it’s accurate and reliable, very well made, I’m just not a DA/SA person.
