Sell RRA to buy DD M4?

I’m a Low Speed High Drag guy itching to pick up a Daniel Defense M4. I currently have a RRA Entry Tactical that I like but something about the DD is calling me. I wish I could keep my RRA and add the DD but the funds won’t permit as my wife and I just had our second child.

Should I sell the RRA to fund the DD? The things I like about the DD is the 1:7 twist and just the overall quality. I can get $1,500 for my RRA and all I’d need to buy would be a new optic. I currently run an Eotech 511 and want an Aimpoint so this would give me a reason to upgrade in this area too.

Thanks for your help!

I vote for ditching the RRA and getting a Daniel Defense.

If you can get a DD M4 for only a hundred bucks more then you are receiving for the RRA that is a solid upgrade for a fairly small price. Go for it.

I sold my Bushmaster ORC for a DDM4. I didn’t lose too much on my initial purchase price but I didn’t get what I wanted for it. Despite this, I consider upgrading a wise choice.

I am doing the same thing with a Rock River to get a Colt. I think it is a wise move for a number of reasons. DO IT!

I think in most cases you will see the response that you should keep what you have and train with it. However, for the price of only $100, you will have a better gun and you could get away with making the switch.

I’ll never understand it, but people are willing to pay a premium for RRA stuff, when there are better products for the same or less money.

Having just fondled the Daniel Defense M4 that my office manager purchased, I would definitely encourage you to go for it. It’s a heck of a rifle.

The DD M4 is a nice piece no doubt I’ve fondled a couple.

I’ll wear the barrel out on this one and eventually replace the BCG, but after Gotm4 got done with mine and a few updates I like the majority of My RRA as much as I like the DD M4, actually I like the fore end better.

Depends what your wishes are…

I’m a civvy that shoots at the range and takes the occasional carbine courses. I have a RRA and a couple LMTs. I bought the first LMT to “upgrade” over the Rock River, but found that I missed the accuracy of the RRA, which always outshoots my LMT.

What I’ve done is go back and upgraded the RRA by getting it re-staked, putting in the BCM bolt upgrade kit, etc. It remains my favorite gun (until I snag an N4 Light upper!) Something to think about doing as another avenue for you. Use the search tool to look up Rob S’s thread on how to upgrade your bushy/RRA/DPMS etc…

In the end, I think you already know what you want. I’ve found over the years that people that ask these kinds of questions already have decided and are looking for confirmation. You won’t go wrong with the DD though I dislike the looks of the rail personally even if it is functional.

You mentioned that you will be buying a new optic. Would that also include a new BUIS as well. If this is the case, that’s a lot more than $100, and I would just upgrade what you have, and stick a few paychecks back for the DD, instead.

The DD M4 comes with a BUIS. I would make the deal, especially while you can get that amount for your RRA.

Agree. Do the deal.

DDM4 beats RRA 10 out of 10 times.

If you can’t tell I have no love for RRA. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll let yours slide if Robb did the work on it.

Do the deal. Big time upgrade IMO.

Why all the hate for RRA, I love mine. It’s just as accurate and reliable as my pony.

I don’t know that there’s a lot of hate for RRA, I guess it just depends on what you’re using your rifle for. For most folks, RRA will do quite well, and will outlast the shooter. But for others, the highest quality is the only option. It’s a matter of perspective and preference.

I guess the question that summarizes this thread, is, “Why drive a Toyota, when you can drive a Lexus for a comparable price?”

I don’t think anyone is hating on RRA, it is a decent gun. The DD M4 is just a bit more for almost same money (in this case anyway) - DD has full length, free float rails, better grade steel barrel with a 1/7 twist, black spring extractor system, sweet DD BUIS, beveled magwells, tight fit and finish, fully parkerized. It is sort of like Toyota makes a good car but Lexus is generally considered a little nicer.

crazy, we used the same analogy toyota with vs lexus!

You readin’ my mail?
