Self-Defense Ammo for 9mm M&P

Just picked up a M&P in 9mm and wanted to know what everyone recommends for a good self-defense round. Really looking for information specific to the M&P. I was looking at the following ammo:

Speer Gold Dot
Remington Golden Sabre
Federal LE Tactical Hydrashock
Remington Express

I’m looking for the round that will be 100% reliable in an M&P. I will fire a few boxes to confirm reliability before using the round but I know many on this forum shoot far JHPs than I ever will.

Thanks for your help!

Unless there’s a problem with the gun, I’d expect any stock M&P9 to shoot any of those choices without a problem. As for which might be most accurate out of your pistol, that will vary from gun to gun and isn’t something that can be predicted. In my experience, the 9mm M&Ps do tend to be most accurate with hotter (+p/+p+) ammunition.

firecop – Yes, the 124gr TMJ AmEag has really been a disappointment. It’s definitely not living up to my expectations based on past experience with AmEag and ATK ammo in general.

Hornaday Critical Defense has worked well in my Hi-Power.

Just curious why no 127gr. +P+ Ranger?

I would suggest Federal HST over the Hydrashoks…they do not have the center pin and are more reliable for expansion.
