Good Morning Guys,
I'm looking for owners of 1990's Mfg'd Colt R6520 Government Carbines, as I need to verify some information regarding the specific (OEM) buffer that came with it. The weapon is still in mint, unfired condition, but many years ago I replaced it's butt stock with an after-market 6 position, FDE assembly. I swapped out the OEM Colt unit ( buffer tube, castle nut, buffer & spring ) with the 6 pos. one & then put the gun away in the safe. I ended up not using it all these years, & recently decided to put it back into it's original configuration. OK now, here's where I need some help ? I just can't recall which BUFFER & SPRING I have in there now ?? BOTH buffers are UNMARKED, very similar in color, & BOTH weigh in at 2.9 - 3.0 ozs. ( Which is what they should weigh in at. ) THE ONLY THING that may assist me in determining which is the OEM Colt version, is the fact that one BUFFER HAS A HOLE near the bottom of it, & THE OTHER BUFFER DOESN'T HAVE ANY HOLES. IIRC, the early 1990's production Colt standard carbine buffer did not have a hole in it, based upon the photo exhibited in Chris Bartocci's "Black Rifle II" ? ( page 321 / photo 510 ) At this point I'm sure some people are saying, "just buy a new "correct" buffer & get on with it. Yes, I may end up doing just that, but I figured I'd at least try to determine which was the right one. If anyone has any specific knowledge in this matter, or has an early 1990's mfg Colt 6520, I'd VERY MUCH APPRECIATE hearing from them. THANK YOU
