Thanks
I tried to see a scope or 2 at Bass Pro today, but the slow a$$ed sales people had a line about 15 long. Not worth it IMO.
I wouldn’t buy a Cabellas brand anything (or any other off brand scope). Buy quality (online usually) and you can always move it if it ends up not being to your liking.
I don’t have an issue with PI or Japanese made optics (Leupold is pretty cagey about were all their parts come from, I’m certain for the lower end optics lots of it is from overseas and only put together in the states) as long as they are from a reputable company (Vortex, Weaver, even NightForce SHV lineup is Japanese made). Chinese made optics are a pass for me as well.
What is a Cabelas? And why are people there talking to you?
No one bothers me when I order my optics online.
I like to support local companies, but a lot of the people working retail in the gun industry make it a chore. There ms some things I’d pick up local, at certain stores, but online is where it’s at.
Any questions to compare, ask here. Hopefully someone can weigh in with experience.
I spoke to a Guy for Osprey. They sound like they have a great warranty and features for the money, but I just googled them. I read a few issues and a bunch of customer service problems, which has me concerned.
What range are you looking to hit?
Vortex is another company to try.

I like to support local stores too but big box chains don’t count.
If you want a good optics buying experience, in person, Sport Optics in South LA is the only shop I’ve been to that I’d recommend. End users, stocking everything from kahles to vortex to s&b, polite staff, etc etc
Thanks
Does it have to have “made in USA” on it? Why? Help me understand your reasoning and maybe I can better help offer suggestions.
I say this because you can’t find a us sourced and made scope for that price. They all source parts or glass from overseas. So if this is some attempt at patriotism, you’re being scammed. If you require US assembly but not US parts, that opens up options.
Thanks
Roger that.
Cabelas is a really awesome showroom where someone with extraordinary patience can look at and even handle most types of pistols and some limited types of long guns and optical instruments. You then take your impressions to da interwebz and order your selection from someone you actually want to do business with.
Cabelas website works OK and occasionally has OK deals, and if something isn’t what you hoped the return policy is OK.
BTW, I have purchased stuff in-store at a Cabelas, the process is so outrageously painful I will never do it again unless it’s an unregulated on-the-shelf item and the cash register wait is zero because it’s Tuesday at 9:30am in the winter. In other words, never.
If you want a $400 scope that says “Made in USA” on it, Leupold is about your only choice, and the VX-3 listed is a reasonable choice.
Thanks
Mile High Shooting is another. Small showroom, but will bring out 50 different S&B optics and let you look through em, play with the turrets, etc. of corse if your actually a buyer and not just a tire kicker. They have brought out a few AI 300s and 338s for me to put hands on. Just didn’t bring 8-9k with me to take one home.
Glad you got it worked out.
You go to Cabelas to finger bang the scopes, that’s about it.
