scope

Does anyone know what kind of one piece scope mount the shooters were using in Magpul’s Art of The Precision Rifle?

Sorry for the heading. I meant to put “scope mount question,” but hit return too soon.

They are all LaRue

Do yourself a favor, and take a look at ADM mounts before buying a larue.

If you can avoid giving cuckoo LaRue money… that’s a good thing.

I like some of the Larue products but the quick detachable mounting system is not one of them. PM me if you’d like a more detailed explanation, as I do not want to appear to be bashing.

Some great alternatives I have had good experience with in no particular order:

Spuhr http://spuhr.com/
GDI http://www.gdiengineering.com/
ADM http://americandefensemfg.com/
AADMount http://www.aadmount.com/

If you’re looking at Larue, also take a look at GDI mounts. They are the best that I have played with.

Bash away. If it’s first hand experience, you can post it. Big boys can draw their own conclusion.

For $565 per mount they better be dipped in gold…you can get over 2 ADM/Larue/Bobro mounts for one GDI mount.

The only mounts I’ve ever used are Badger’s. I’ve had great success with them. I don’t even know why I’m looking at something different, I guess I’m just always looking for something that might be better. I’m looking at upgrading my scope which will require 34mm rings.

Does anyone know what kind of mount LAV was using in the Tac Tv mile shot that failed?

Unreliable is not better. This I know.

I haven’t heard of these guys. This will require more research for sure. I’ve been out of the community for quite awhile so all my knowledge is…obsolete.

Is this a configuration that requires a one piece mount solution? If not, why not just go with normal rings? They’ll be lighter, cheaper, and offer you far more mounting height options than a one piece mount.

Nothing major;

Just have had them work loose on more than one occasion. Even with the blue locktite.

On my AR applications and aluminum rails in general, I don’t care how the lever action wears the anodizing off creating polished bare aluminum sections on the underside of the rails. Admittedly more of a cosmetic issue than anything since I have no idea if the irregular surface has any functional impact.

There are much better systems out there for quick detach, that is all.

That said I still use their flashlight mount (and that works it’s self loose as well… go figure). I’m about to chunk it too though.

My new favorite bolt action rifle rings are the AADMount rings and theAPA rings, either is worth a serious look.

AADMount rings will run with the top, but the quality is not reflected in their price (very reasonable).

The APA rings are my new favorite light weight choice.

i was impressed with the GDI mounts, but not impressed enough to spend that much. (And that’s coming from a guy with two $500 spuhr mounts)

i probably have a dozen larue QD devices and can’t say i’ve ever had any real issues, but then, i’m not overly concerned about scratching the paint underneath my rails. i did have to tighten one of them excessively to get it to return to zero, but it did return to zero consistently.

these days, as long as you don’t use those clowns who trademarked the term “throw lever”, you’re probably good

I forgot that I bought mine on a group buy. So yea; I kind of feel the same way about mine, even at the discount. It’s nice but very pricey.

I also have the AADMount on an AR-10 and it’s very robust, with a built in bubble level. If you can’t tell I am very impressed with Jon’s scope mounts and rings. When I factor in the price relative to the competition and it’s a no brainer.

If you value “return to zero” in a QD mount, then there is no equal in my opinion, and I’ve played with them all. If you’re not swapping optics in the middle of a match, or worse, then I’ll agree it’s not worth the money. That said, I run Spuhr mounts with everything as I rarely swap optics.

I just used a new ADM Recon 20MOA mount on my 308-AR build and love it. It’s my second Recon mount, the first didn’t have the 20MOA slope built in. Also the new one has 2 screws on the top of the rings instead of the old 3-screw style which was probably overkill.

I must have missed the LaRue drama… what happened mark???

Just LaRue’s perpetual douchebaggery and inability to shut up and make products…
