School me on a particular AK

Sorry, no pictures.

I was examining an AK and would appreciate some insight into what it was.

It had a milled receiver with a well-done blued finish and decent wood that appeared to be walnut. It had no apparent manufacturer’s information on it, but has M22 on the left side of the receiver, a little ways from the serial number. The only markings on the right side of the receiver were near the front: a K, an A, and a B (proof marks?). It had a receiver-mounted sling loop.

Thanks.

Sounds like an Arsenal Inc. SA-M7 Classic.

No Arsenal markings?

Nope, no manufacturer markings. I suspect this is an old gun, definately pre-Arsenal.

I don’t know why I didn’t google before, but it looks like it’s probably the export variant of the Chinese Type 56, which was called the M22.

The selector markings of L and D mentioned at that link were also on this particular AK.

That’s not a civillian rifle in the CONUS, is it?

That’s a Chinese export, as you stated, military hardware.

No, it’s not.

Thanks for verifying my suspicion.
