So I am interested in getting a can for my 9mm AR and would like to be able to use it on a pistol also. From what I have been reading some cans work better on fixed barrel weapons than non- fixed barrel ones (Browning type). Interested in thoughts/opinions and any good informative links on the topic would be appreciated.
-If it matters I am interested in the SWR Trident 9
Oh maybe I should have had a different title to the thread maybe it should be. “School me on picking a handgun for a 9mm can”.
I know that there is a difference in the fix vs non-fixed barrels. I think that the fact that the browning style unlocks and tilts up on recoil that the weight of the can could stop it from cycling ( did I understand that right?). Any way I have a fix barrel HK P7m13 and a couple of Browning type 9mm weapons (Hi-power, 1911, and a Ruger P-85 ). Are any of these (with the exception of the p-85 convertable or should I be looking for a different weapon?
The Trident can be be screwed on to a fixed barrel(or a Browning type for that matter, but the gun won’t cycle) or you can buy a “Nielsen Device”(available for the trident and most other mfg as well) so any browning type design will function with the suppressor attached.
You could also get a can that has a nielson device and get a fixed barrel adapter for the firle or subgun you will be using it on. There are several different thread sizes you can use 1/2"-28, 1/2"-32 or M13.5 X 1 LH Thread. But I would recomend 1/2x28 as that what the barrel on your ar is most likely threaded to. I dont know what the SWR trident is going for but here is an other option for a 9mm can
I’ve got an AAC Evo-9 and an SWR Trident-9. Both are superior cans to everything else I have seen in the same class.
The Evo-9 is a slightly better handgun suppressor. The Trident-9 is slightly better on a rifle, subgun, SBR. Both work very well on all platforms and the differences are subtle.
I really like the metric threads so, that’s what I use on my Glock. My other platform is an Uzi so, the mount flexibility and stainless steel blast baffle of the Trident-9 are nice features.
That’s good information for the future. I considered getting the 3-lug mount for my Evo-9 but decided I didn’t want that expense in the barrels. Hind sight being 20/20, I would have asked my dealer about ordering my Evo-9 that way back when I got it just like he did with his Phantom (think that was the name) model he put on his M-16 9mm.
