I was out training with a local SWAT sniper team today and I had to cut my training short because my S&B crapped out on me…again!!
The problem is that the scope is causing my shots to go all over the place. For example, shooting at 300y and my shots hitting 6 to 7 inches right of POA. Initially it was subtle enough to make me question my shooting. I spent the last month or so scratching my head and second guessing, my body position, my trigger control, my breathing, pretty much everything. Just recently I started to consider the scope as the problem. I’m a solid shooter but I’m not one to blame my gear when I pull a shot or two. It wasn’t until today shooting at 300y that it really answered the “what the f**k is going on” question.
This isn’t my first issue with their scopes. A couple of years ago I had issues with one of their scopes too. The whole situation was an absolute nightmare.
At this point they agreed to send me a new one, so that’s good. But I have to admit I’m really tired of having scope issues every year and half or so.
So I’m curious any other S&B users out there having problems with their scope.
I agree though… there is nothing worse than a malfunctioning rifle scope. It really wastes a lot of your time.
One would think at that level, you wouldn’t have the problem… but I hear about it time and time again. $3100 or more for an optic… that son of a bitch better work!
Be sure to examine your rifle and mounting system with a fine tooth comb. Be sure that nothing is “causing” this failure.
For optics at that price range… the company should send you a new scope… then fix the old one and send it back for free. Or at the very least send you a check for the ammo you wasted while dealing with their defective product.
But as usual, companies only stand behind their product as much as they have to, so I doubt we’ll see that happen.
I’m a little pissed about my scope. Defects in lenses are pretty easy to catch during manufacturing. If there was a competing product which offered the same capability I’d be using it…
All shit made by humans fails at some point. I own a S&B Short Dot and couldn’t be happier. I have heard of them failing BUT they’ve always repaired them.
