Thinking about getting a SCAR and was wondering if if a single point would be good or stay with a two point. Im leaning to Troy for either a sinlge or two point, any ideas?
Thats a matter of your preference. The scar has 5 attachment points on rifle and another at top rear of stock. I bought some H&K type hooks and put them on a Viking Tactics VTAC MK2 sling.
I bought a single point gear sector sling. A very nice sling. I used it for a little while but didnt like the way the gun felt with it hanging at that one point.
I ordered a gear sector 2 point sling and put it on. I really like the feel of it. To me the SCAR is more controlled when I have to take my hands off of it and let it hang. Its not banging around everywhere.
2 Point for me.
I want a single point but 16" barrel is a bit long for one. Hmmmm…
single isnt too long on a 16", been using a magpul MS2 sling on my BCM middy (close to 18" with the flash hider). Just dont bang the tip of the barrel when you bend/kneel down
A good adjustable two point offers you far more options.
I use the Urban ERT in the 2 point configuration for the SCAR.
It is easy to swap to a single point if you ever wanted to and they offer additional adapters to fit other firearms.
Good luck
Are you asking if it makes a difference with that particular rifle? I don’t believe so - I believe it’s no different than selecting a sling for an M4 or any other rifle. There are quite a few threads related to the pros & cons of each type.
I am personally of the same opinion as Templar. I prefer a two point sling. I am running a Vickers sling on a SCAR, using an HK hook for the front attachment (a Blue Force UWL would work as well), and running the rear through back of the stock.
I’d say it’s quite different, or at least it feels that way to me coming from the AR platform. The eyelets seem oddly placed, the angles are different and what works well on the AR15 doesn’t exactly transfer to the SCAR. Honestly I’m still trying to get used to it and looking to see what others are using so a thread like this seems appropriate.
My question to fellow SCAR owners is what hook type are you using on your slings? And have you found one that works better for you than another?

I’m used to QD push buttons so these hooks take getting used to… I have the MASH, HK, and Troy HK style hooks but I haven’t decided which I’m going to use with my sling. It’s an Emdom Gunslinger 1-2 point convertible which I like very much. The problem is I need a hook that can transition easily from the front eyelet on the SCAR to a medium sized d-ring on the sling.
The small HK is more fluid hooked to the weapon but more difficult to take on and off. The larger one is easier to get a grip on and remove but sometimes gets hung up or caught at an angle on the rifle. Both of them pinch my fingers when I’m trying to get them on and don’t make for a very smooth or rapid transition on or off the gun.
Haven’t tried the MASH hook yet much but am looking to try that next. Anyways I’m looking for suggestions on how to better set this up. Any one else have this same problem?
I should have been a bit more clear. The mount points are different on a SCAR, so attaching the sling to the rifle is going to be different than an M4. However, for me, this doesn’t change the fact that I prefer a two point sling to a single point. Whether it’s a SCAR, FAL, AK or M4, I prefer a two point sling mounted forward of the handguard (or as far forward as allowed by the weapon’s design) and at the rear of the stock. I think what I was trying to say above is that I believe that if one has a preference for a particular style of sling - single point vs. two-point, that preference won’t change when switching from an M4 to a SCAR, although the method of mounting it will be different.
I agree that it’s worth discussing how folks attach numerous items (slings, lights, etc…) to a SCAR vs. an M4. But for me, the fact that it mounts a little differently on any given weapon design does not change my basic preference for a two-point sling over a single-point.
I am using the lowest of the three hooks shown in your photo, BTW.
I like the mash hooks, they just seem way more secure. Ive had HK style hooks come off and bend…

I’ve never like using any of the hook types.
With the Urban ERT I use the sling adapters that are made of webbing and I loop them through the same point as a person would with the hook.
To OP: SCAR is rather front end heavy. It is balanced forward more so than AR of similar weight. I tried one point sling and didn’t like it at all. I mean, even AR hangs straight down with one point, but with SCAR it just didn’t work for me.
I use Blue Force Gear UWL loops on both front and rear ends. I keep my support arm way forward and without UWL my hand bumps into a sling/hook. Similarly, at the rear, the UWL helps to move hardware away from stock and unclutters the setup. I presume any hook can be attached to UWL. I personally attach my Vickers sling - the same as on Templar’s pick - directly to UWL. The downside is a loss of QD capability, the upside - simpler and slimmer setup.
I did a little experimenting with the MASH hooks. I liked it very much over the HK and will probably go with those instead.
Question for you now Templar, or anyone else who knows… what sling is that? I know it’s a padded BFG VCAS but more specifically what kind? The front hook looks permanently attached and sewn into the webbing. I don’t see that offering anywhere on their site other than one using QD buttons. Does anyone have a link where I can find that particular version?
