SCAR SBR???

The more I see the FN SCAR, the more I like it. That being said, is there a way to SBR it?

Can you just cut the barrel after you receive your stamp? or is there a piston, barrel, spring rate issue?

Does anyone know if FN would sell the short barrel assemble after the fact?

Any thoughts would be appreciated…

Thanks, Wally

The short answer is that right now, no, you can’t.

The gas port on each barrel is tuned for that barrel with an insert in the port.

Hopefully FN will release NFA barrels.

There is someone on fnforum that is cutting a barrel down to 10". It is in the fn scar 16s section then look for Hi-Desert Dog Barrel cut and thread scar to SBR . But everything i have read says no sales of sbr barrels to civilians.

Wow, that is very interesting.

I won’t be the guinea pig for cutting that barrel. They just remove the gas plug instead of putting in the correct ones, plus you have to contend with potential accuracy falloff if the chip the chrome. I was advised this will could damage the gun by someone very close to the mil SCAR program, due to not regulating the pressure operating the piston.

There is gunsmith who is turning custom SS barrels and fitting them on your barrel extension/gas block with a proper gas port to keep the system pressure where is should be. He can re-install the factory barrel at a later date if need be. I’ll try to find his name.

Thanks guys, I know the barrel assemply is modular, but if you can’t get a new barrel, SBRing this thing doesn’t seem like a good idea as of now…Thanks, Wally

one can only hope it works out. I would much rather have a SCAR with the shorter barrel.

Is CMMG going to make any SBR barrels for the SCAR?
