Rainier Arms just announced a SCAR lower to allow the -H to take PMags on their FB page. Price point is supposed to be $300, which sounds like a lot, but consider that PMags are EVERYWHERE, and $300 will get you between 5 and 8 SCAR magazines.
Great idea. Ever since the thread came up with the guy who hacked together something like this for himself, I wondered why no manufacturer had seized on the idea.
Interested in the weight difference, my favorite thing about the scar h is the light weight.
I have enough scar h mags but I’m not happy with them. You drop them on the carpet and they come apart.
This is a little “late to the party”
Now SCAR 17 mags are available at multiple vendors for $30-40 each.
I got 5 at $34 from Brownells, I might have considered this a year ago but not now.
Do the more informed members here think that this may be the beginning of this platform really taking off?
It’s still a little out of my price range (or more appropriately my wife’s price range :D), but its dang intriguing, especially if you can switch back to 556.
$30-40 for a mag is just outrageous…just like Armalite AR10 mags.
the Rainier Arms lower is a good thing since I wouldnt even buy a rifle if mag/parts arent readily available
Does anyone else find it ironic that a SCAR17 uses a polymer lower receiver and metallic magazines, but to use a polymer magazine we have to buy a metallic lower? Just seems funny.
Yeah.
I haven’t seen any proof that the 7.62 pmags are better than their OEM counterparts for the SCAR. Now that magazine availability problems are getting worked out I am more likely to leave well enough alone and just stick with the stock lower and mags.
Now, should they make a 25-30 round 7.62 pmag that worked as well as the stock part, you might change my mind.
Now if they made this lower so that it could use AR triggers that would be pretty cool.
As it is I personally like the SCAR 17 mags a little better than the KAC style mags as the ridge on the back is a possitive indicator which direction the mag is facing when doing reloads. It also keeps you from inserting it backwards.
In all honesty when I got my SCAR 17 I wasn’t expecting to much out of the mags but along with the SCAR itself I’ve really grown to like them.
