Has anyone had an opportunity to shoot one of these yet? I know they probably wont’ be available to the public until June 2010. However, I was wondering if any of these were available for the press to shoot prior the shot show. Or perhaphs there may be some people from the industry who have had a chance to send a few rounds down range. I would like information regarding the stock trigger and whether it is interchangable with the AR platform.
I may be able to get one a good price when they become availalble which is why I am asking. I don’t really need another 308, but I thought this might be a a nice one to have, particularly if I can get the ATF to sign off on a SBR.
I’m almost positive it won’t take an AR-15 or AR-10 trigger group. The stock trigger is pretty good for a battle rifle, much better than a stock AR-15 but a little heavy. Actually, it won’t even take an AR grip. Someone did however post that they modified a MIAD and got it to fit flush.
Overall it’s a good, reliable weapon and very accurate for its role. With magnification 900m hits are attainable on a silouette. One of the Crane employees claims it’s a 1 MOA rifle with the long barrel and I believe it.
I agree, they really need to release a shorty barrel. What are they afraid of? What’s the point of the stupid barrel-change option without access to different barrels? The kit that’s included with the issue MK17’s has the short, medium and long barrels and a few different optics. We’ve been playing around with different “builds” and I love the way the medium barrel shoots but it’s just not that practical. One of the main things I don’t like about the platform is how long the receiver is. With a 16" barrel the setup is very long (and heavy). With the boat anchor Spectre DR it’s a no shit 13.5 lb. gun and the ammo/mags are really heavy too. As it starts getting hotter out I’ll have to switch over to 13" barrel and an EOTech which would make the whole thing just a little longer than an M4 and shave off a couple pounds.
