SCAR Cleaning Procedures

Unlike my ARs, I don’t have a bore guide…not aware of an available bore guide for the SCAR. I clean it after every range trip (manual says to do this.) I use the Tipton carbon fiber rod, bronze brush, brass jag and patches. Any issues to be concerned of here?

Yes, a few times I’ve doubled up on the patches to get more coverage and really have to push the jag through. Yes, I’ve even got it stuck and had to really pull to get it out, with really messed up and torn patches left over. I’m much more carful as of late. Thank gosh the brass jag won’t hurt the bore!

I clean my SCAR like I do my AR, nothing special. It does take a lot less time to clean the SCAR though.

I dont use a bore guide but I think this is what you looking for.

Why are you cleaning the bore so much? Has accuracy fallen off?

Following the directions stipulated on the manual. :fie:

How often do you clean the bore of your other rifles? Who is the manual written for and by?

Don’t have a SCAR (yet), but when I do get one eventually I anticipate cleaning the bore like all my other guns… with a bore snake.

I don’t own a SCAR, but it’s a combat weapon, and while I clean my weapons after every trip, I wouldn’t go crazy about. Usually my cleaning is just soaking some patches with Hoppe’s, drawing them through the barrel with a cleaning rope, and wiping it after a while. You just need to get the carbon out (and deal with corrosive salts, if you’re shooing that kind of ammo), and you don’t even really need to get the carbon. That’s what oil’s for…

As for the manual, does the manual also say something like “Lock all ammunition in a separate room before attempting to disassemble the weapon”? Sometimes manuals can get a little extreme. The ammo isn’t going to come alive and jump into the weapon and fire itself, and the barrel isn’t going to rot away from having a little carbon on it.

I like a rope, but carbon fiber and brass sounds fine.
