I’m going to get a 14" shotty pump. I am leaning towards an 870P 14"… but the wait will be 2-3 months!! I can get a used, like new (on GB) Mossberg 590 14" and have it in hand in 3-4 weeks! WWYD?
870 will be $150-200 more too… but hey, its an 870 Police!
i would go with th remmy, been using them since i’m 18. on another note just tested the 590 sbs we put 3000 rds thru over a couple weeks with no issues.
See if you can find one of the Remington USSS guns - factory 14" 870P with tritium ghost ring sights (that are OK but not great quality), quality 1 round extension and speedfeed stock. There were a bunch of them on the market last year for $500-$600.
Go with the 870. I have had both and they both function great. The Mossburg has an issue with a bolt backing out and binding the gun up. IMHO the 870 is a better gun.
I was thinkin I could get the Mossy for playin with while waiting 3 or 4 or 6, 8 , 9 months for the Rem. and then sell off the cheaper one to some wanting person who didn’t wanna pay for the Remmy.
Mossberg has some SKU’s that are special for large distributors such as the ones in TALO. That SKU fits in to the standard 590, not 590A1, line. The “standard” NFA 590A1 SKU’s start with 51 or 52 or 53 and end in the 68_ (no 5s listed) range depending on the model. That price is preety low, but not impossible if it was some sort of special built on a regular 590 reciever.
I’ve come to the conclusion they’re both great guns. One thing that was pointed out by one of my buddy’s who carried one across seas is that the 870 seems to have a bit weaker ejection than most pump brands. He demonstrated his point lightly with weak cycling and he was right, with the 870 requiring more force to clear the ejection port than the Mossberg, Browning, or Winchester. Based on his point, I could see how it could be an issue with mud or dirt if you aren’t putting some effort into it.
I’d still go with an 870PM myself though. Police Mags are a lot more beefy than most any other “tactical” shotgun. Maybe I’m biased though.
I can run a 870 better than Mossbergs and Winchesters, but then again Ive never had formal training on those platforms either. Ironically, I dont own a 870, yet.
