I hope I’m not stepping on any toes or asking something that has already been asked before but,
Are SBR’s exempt from AWB’s? By this I mean if an AWB banning possession with no grandfather clause is passed, would an SBR be exempt or would the AWB apply to it as well? I have an AR that I have been wanting to SBR for some time now, and was just wondering if this would help.
Looking at the last AWB, SBRs still had to be in compliance with the AWB, no bayonet lugs blah blah blah. No one knows what a future, if any, ban may or may not state is legal. Past practice has grandfathered guns, ie the “pre ban” stuff but who knows. I am guessing just SBRing you will not have the free card to bypass any bans. Even looking at 922r compliance, it was past practice that an SBR was exempt as there was no importable SBRs, now the ATF has sent letters saying SBRs have to be 922r.
If you have a gun that you want to SBR, do it. I just sent off another form 1 last week. Not because of any impending laws, just cause I wanted another one.
Awesome, thanks for the speedy and informative answer!
Good answer from someone who knows what they are talking about. Mods, please lock this thread as I feel that my question has been answered, unless you feel that there is room for further and adequate discussion on this subject.
I just ordered my first SBR from Grant, and waiting for it to show up… Paperwork is almost ready to send in. However, I was worried to if something would hold up my process, what happens to my rifle…
