SBR + suppressed on one tax stamp? integrally?

If this has been talked about, my apology and I’m happy to read up if someone shows me the way…

I have a spare upper receiver and BCG and would like to put together a .300BLK upper, SBR, suppressed. Suppressors just became legal in my state and I know very little about them. I would like to have the setup I described in an overall length of 16" or a little less. So I have a few questions:

  1. Is there a way to pin or weld a suppressor to a short barrel and avoid two tax stamps?

  2. If so, doesn’t the suppressor need to be removed for cleaning? How is that done? (I’ve never even touched one)

  3. Are there advantages of doing SBR, and suppressor separate and paying an extra $200? (other than the obvious ability to easily remove it)

  4. Is it better to just pay a ton more and buy a Daniel Defense ISR 300, or Sig MCX integrally suppressed rifle?

  5. Are there other brands (or uppers only) that are integrally suppressed? (I saw one recently but don’t recall the brand)

  6. What are the pros/cons of using this and another upper on the same lower? (I think this upper would be registered to the lower forever right?)

Yes but it will void any cans warranty I can think of. Maybe you could F1 a can and make it serviceable from the other end? Or buy a ton of fireclean haha

The lower wouldn’t have to be registered if it was a non-SBR. The can will have to be on the registry regardless. If it’s permanently attached and over 16" then you wouldn’t have an SBR.

Edit - even p/w the MD will void certain cans warranties.

I would SBR a lower and get a can you can throw on any host. You may think you’ll only want one, but I’m sure you’ll eventually want more.

Talk to the guys at Liberty Suppressors. They are great people and they have a 300BLK setup that might interest you. “Most” rifle cans do not require much cleaning. With that said it would be best for a permanently affixed suppressor to be serviceable in some way. Going with a, from the factory, integrally suppressed system would keep you within a manufacturer’s warranty. I really think that when it comes to running a 300BLK that you would benefit from just paying the extra 200 and going with the SBR and 762 suppressor, cause it would give you more versatility in the long run(if you have a 762 rifle or any sub calibers that you wanted to you run the suppressor on). Really it all depends on what you want. Research, research, and then research some more. Also not that suppressors get very hot under hard use and that when you put them under your hand guards all that heat will be felt by your support hand. Surefire just released a Socom300SPS that is supposed to do really well on everything from 762 to 556.

You could always weld a barrel shroud that the can fits inside of, but I would just bite the bullet and go full sbr and can.

Thanks for the advice so far. I’m looking for all the opinions and advice I can get. Does anyone here have experience with the integrally suppressed rifles mentioned?

Thanks, that Liberty was the one I heard about and couldn’t remember. Looks like another good, but expensive option. I need to try and stick to the original spirit of this project and use the receiver and BCG that I have. It’s way too easy for me to get carried away!:rolleyes:

This is so true! Just set out a list of what is important to you and stick with it. That makes it so much easier to look for and research a good suppressor that fits your needs. There are so many different cans out there tight now that it can seem over whelming(no pun intended).

If it was a 5.56 build, the easy answer is a Griffin Spartan 3, which actually comes predrilled for a pin & weld setup. Just don’t know of a 300BLK equivalent.

Personally, I’d make it a two-stamp rifle.

Liberty has the option to use your parts for a Leonidas build. I looked into that but ended up buying a suppressor, it’s just more flexible.

PS - Looking at the DD ISR, the suppressor baffles are tiny in length! In general you can get subs pretty damn quiet with a full size 762 can but the ISR either defies physics or is really loud.

EDIT: looks like the ISR uses a “mini” sized 762 suppressor.
