I have just moved to a free state! My plan is to take my current stripped lower build it into a pistol first while I wait on suppresor paperwork. Then when that comes in go for the SBR paperwork. My main reasoning to go this way is to allow me to get everything and then make a stock change after that last stamp comes in. Additionally, funds are tight so the more money the longer it will take to get it finished.
Gun goals: I want to end up with a SBR that will be close to hearing safe outdoors, have the suppresor either at the end of or recessed into the free float grips, have a QD system (I have another AR), and not be more than 16-18" long barrel would be. I will probably end up with a low power red dot on this with BUIS. This will probably become my main AR and will shoot run and gun/range trips as well as end up ready for HD duties
I would like to go with a 10.5" barrel. From the reading I have done it seems like this will give good reliability, not void warranties, won’t be unbearable during unsupressed fire. I currently have a stripped lower, complete upper and complete bolt.
What foregrip and supressor combos would you recomend to meet these end goals?
I gave you some good help. The most important part to your ridiculous thread was to do a little research.
You wanna come back with some smart ass comments about me correcting your “Vocab” as you put it…well you sound ridiculous when you want to find a “Free float grips”.
Youre right about the pic thread, not everyone has specs listed, thats why you ASK.
But I understand that would take time and a little “WORK”. Dont want to do that now do we.
So goodluck with your build and finding your “Free float grips” and “Low power red dot”.
This thread is the reason for short answers and closed threads, not to mention countless OPs everywhere getting butthurt and going back to Arfcom.
Theres a reason your silly thread has 60 views and 2 replies.
I know how I want to purchase things. What I am asking the general knowledge pool is if anyone had any specific combos that work for them. Not who wants to come in and shit all over the place. :nono:
Dude, not trying to discourage you but the advice was given. You want to shit over a decently respected member of this forum when he gives you sound advice pack your bags you won’t be staying. You want to save money and get a no shit answer about what works read more post less.
No you can go and check out the picture thread in the nfa section OR you can buy a mk18 mod0 from dd or colt. I also believe that noveske makes one maybe not. Either way you won’t be disappointed with either choice. As far as finding a suppressor hearing safe under 16" good luck. You would have to be a magician.
Anyways take a step back from the keyboard think about how you want to approach people to get answers you want. But don’t be a pricked it wont get you anywhere. Also start here by reading this and the thread titled “the good, the bad, and the ugly” in the general discussion page at the bottom. Also the thread titled “why m4c” in the site comment/questions page. Start with the link. http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=54936
I would (and did) SBR my lower and buy a suppressor before ever buying anything.
An SBR will cost you about $250 total, including engraving and the tax stamp. But it will take about six months (I speak from experience) to get your paperwork.
Why the hell would you want a 10.5" gun with a suppressor on the end and no buttstock for an entire year?
If funds are tight, give up the “free float grip” and the “low power red dot”. Get a 10.5" carbine, slap some MOEs on it, and use iron sights until you have enough cash so that you will have a functional carbine instead of some goofy useless range toy.
Of course, in the end, you’re going to do whatever you want regardless of what we tell you. It only cost me $10,000 before I figured out what works, maybe it won’t take you quite as long.
Edit: I live near Sarasota and I go to the Manatee Gun Club all the time. If you wanted to shoot a suppressed SBR and see if you even like it, I should be going later this month.
Obviously a couple of things got mixed up. Let me take a couple steps back.
-I currently have a 16" ar as well as 1/2 of the parts for a second AR.
-I like to build things
-I want an SBR.
-I want a silencer.
-I want to put these together in different combos.
-I like the uninterupted flow of a FF handguard into the suppressor.
-I would rather have 2 guns and a suppresor for the next year than 1 gun, 1 suppressor, and a pile of parts.
The question I was asking is:
What foregrip and supressor combos would you recomend to meet these end goals?
Thank you Ghost for your input on barrel length and suppression. Additionally PM sent Eurodriver.
No problem. Also if you want rainier arms makes a ff rail that will fit over most cans. I believe inside diameter is 1.75" but I recommend going to the website. From what I’ve heard is that a 10.3" bbl suppressed will sound slightly quieter than a 16" unsuppressed. It’s pretty outrageous how much louder they get with seemingly little modification. I understand what you mean about the one gun and some parts but what was suggested was to ditch the rds and maybe something else and just put in your stamps for the can and sbr at the same time. Just get some cheap buis for the time you wait. The general consensus here is to buy once cry once. Happy addiction either way and welcome to m4c.
With your original post you said you wanted QD functionality. Is that for the suppressor? If so, an “uninterupted FF handguard into the suppressor” isn’t going to happen. If you want the suppressor to sit under the handguard, you would need to go with a threaded suppressor that is going to attach directly to the muzzle. If you want a QD suppressor, there are options on railed forends that will get ‘close’ to the muzzle yet not overlap the suppressor.
Definitely do a lot of reading here. Most of your questions have already been answered when asked by other members. Search around the General AR sub-forum and the NFA sub-forum and you will find answers to everything. Definitely do your research before you jump into this.
My suggestion would be to purchase your suppressor and submit your Form 4, engrave a second lower PRIOR to submitting Form 1 paperwork for an SBR, use your existing rifle for now, while waiting for the can and SBR paperwork go ahead and start building up the parts into a rifle. Keep the upper and lower separated so as not to constitute an illegal SBR, then when the forms come back, all you’ll have to do is push two pins together, throw on the suppressor, and go, rather than having a fairly useless range toy AR pistol in the mean time just for a short barrel.
If you do the two forms at the same time, they should come back relatively at the same time (~5 months) and you’ll be good to go. Do some more reading here and soak up all you can. Don’t take words on the internet harshly, snarky responses to percievably snarky comments don’t help perpetuate your cause. I hope this helps.
