Great post… I like to say there is no Sniper Rifle, it is a Sniper’s Rifle. Thanks for the input.
After reading about what’s been accomplished with a Mosin Nagant and low powered scope, I have to agree
I appreciate the positive feedback, guys. I also meant what I said about answering questions or shooting here in Texas. That being said, SB432 asked me some fairly specific and leading questions about our TTP’s and although I have never been an OPSEC Nancy, I’m uncomfortable answering them. In any event, I’ll go back to lurking in the shadows. Shit, at the end of the day, I’m just trying to get into the General Discussion forum.
Overwatch. Nothing more than a different place to point more guns at the bad guy. Now the guy I saw on TV wearing a boonie and carrying an Erblestock complete with extruding barrel is probably a different story.

Probably just a patrol officer with a rifle. On my dept patrol officers that carry rifles are mostly deployed on perimeter positions as over watch. Because of that many guys have a low powered optic like a PST 1-4 or a Luepold CQT and a bipod.
Though our SWAT snipers have 13ish inch AR10s and 20 inch Remington bolt guns.
I think that’s a little too much kit for patrol. SBRs, bump helmets with wHat looks like NVG mounts, and some of the other stuff I saw in pics says SWAT to me. Yes in overwatch but no way is that patrol. I saw an armored vehicle too.
I know a bunch of guys will chime in saying they have an SBR as a patrol rifle but that’s not the norm.
Every once in a while, a post changes my whole thinking process. Scoutchris’ post sure did that. WHEW!
Thanks, Shiz. I can assure you that the majority of Snipers, especially myself, influence the battlefield not by the rounds that we expend, but by the rounds that remain unfired.
You contributions chris I’m certain will be appreciated.
In LE work, a sniper is someone assigned to that position. The could have loads of school, or jack crap, it says sniper next to them on their roster either way.
That’s pretty reasonable. We know the newspaper guys are almost as credible and knowledgeable about guns as the TV newsies.

So if you got a target at 700 and you got a sniper, you send him home and call in the Designated Marksman? Is that how it works?

This post is alternately very informative and hilarious. Hey, I don’t know shit from shinola but I do know the ring of truth when I read it.
Re: The “snipers”: At least they got their booger hooks off the bangswitches. That’s good to see.

I was told those two gentlemen are more than likely Santa Monica SWAT with short barrelled Colts.
