Alright folks, I’m working on a new project, an SBR build, and I’m looking for advice. I want to be able to use a Surefire FA556-212 suppressor if I use a 11.5" barrel, but I am also considering the AAC M4-2000 if I use a 10.3" or 10.5" barrel.
Here are the issues I have not yet decided upon:
Should I use a DD lightweight 10.3", LMT standard 10.5", or a BCM BFH 11.5" barrel? I sort of like the idea of using the lightweight barrel to cut a little bit of the weight down, especially since the suppressor will add a pound.
Standard M-16 BCG from BCM/LMT/DD, or LMT’s Enhanced BCG?
H2 or H3 buffer?
DD Mk18 rail, DD Lite 9.0 or 10.0, or KAC URX II? Again, weight is a factor here so I’m leaning towards the DD Lite 9.0 or 10.0. Also, I’m concerned I won’t be able to use a suppressor on a 10.3" or 10.5" rail if I use the DD Mk18 or DD Lite 10.0… is it possible to do so?
If using the Surefire suppressor, should I use the CA556SA compensator or MB556K muzzle brake - if AAC, should I use the Brakeout 51T compensator or a 51T Muzzle Brake?
From this combination, what would you build? Please unload your ideas on me so I can make the best and most informed decision I can.
An 11.5" barrel would be easier on your suppressor and gun but their are still plenty of people who run a 10.5" suppressed without a hitch.
I believe Grant uses the latter and has come up with a concoction of certain parts that make the gun work reliably. I believe he uses the LMT Enhanced Carrier.
Indeed, Grant does use 11.5". This thread by him, “Best Suppressed SBR Ever???”, was most helpful. In fact, it’s Grant that I’m most likely going to request to build it… especially since he can get barrels with smaller gas ports.
