So I’ve been reading a lot of internets about sbr barrel lengths, including more than one from this site. Still stuck on the question of 11.5 VS 12.5. I’d like to be as short as possible, but the determining factor is if the 11.5 will have enough energy left @ 300 yards to do it’s job. Obviously not with ball, but maybe with something like 64gr power points or some other type of expanding bullet?
I feel like this question has been done into the ground, but I’m still here beating the horse. Thoughts?
Find velocities out of the barrel length you want and contact the manufacturer they usually have the minimum fps for reliable expansion. My gut feeling is the 11.5 will preform comparable to the 12.5 the general rule of thumb is 50 fps per inch of barrel. I know the dwell time issue makes a difference going from 10.5 to 11.5. Check accuracy by the inch I think is a site that does different length and fps by the inch I would find it and link but I’m on a phone.
