Has anyone ever heard of this before? I got a call an hour ago from a complete stranger in Ohio telling me his form 4 silencer paperwork came back with my completed form 1 in there too! He said he’d sent in paperwork for two silencers two weeks apart and initially thought the ATF had managed to put both of them in one envelope, until he saw my picture on there. I’d take my business elsewhere next time but of course the ATF is the only game in town.
I’m thinking of playing dumb, calling up the ATF to ask what happened to my paperwork. My form actually got sent back to me because I had AR-15 for model and my receiver said A-15. Thus I know the desk of the person it went to. I’m thinking their boss needs to know this happened but am unsure how to get that information to the right person.

The form is already on its way to me thanks to the honest citizen that received it. My concern is how best to prevent future mistakes of the same type with other people’s forms It’s pretty serious when your address, social security number and picture end up with a complete stranger. They could do just about anything they want to with that. Ideally the offending agent’s supervisor would be notified but I’m not sure how to make that happen. My thought is if I call the agent and ask them to check their records they might see the flaw in their system and take it more seriously next time.
Anybody who wants to make negative comments, go find another thread.
Yeah, zero chance that’ll happen. All you have here is a situation where in a stack of forms, one piece of paper stuck to the next, or examiner accidentally grabbed two sheets instead of one and folded them up. Nothing in their records is going to show anything but approval dates.
It was an accident. And you seem to be reading way more into it than the situation calls for. While yes, it sucks somebody else saw your info, I’d guess that there’s not many more “groups” of people I’d trust to do the right thing than people filing NFA forms.

Where exactly are you putting your social security number on your Form 1’s?
Don’t put bureaucrats in charge of giving approval to the exercising of our Constitutional rights. The process doesn’t need to be fine tuned. It needs to be eliminated. Of course I realize that you almost certainly agree with this, but there’s realistically no way they will attempt resolve whatever caused the problem. Well, that wasn’t fair. If they can get more money in the budget to attempt to fix it, then they’ll probably go for it. How about a new job: Envelope Stuffer Checker?
