SBR for first AK?

I’m finished building/collecting ARs for now, and I want to diversify.

Is SBRing an M92 or Draco for a first AK a bad idea?

This probably won’t be a “go-to” gun. It will definitely be used, but it is more for reference/collection.

All opinions welcome.

I had a draco in the safe for 3 years. Bought it just for kicks and decided it was useless. Then I saw the sb47 pistol brace, got one and put it on. Then I put on a rail so I could attach an aimpoint micro. It’s a pretty handy little weapon.

If I’d never owned or shot an ak I don’t think I’d take on an sbr project as my first one.

No downside that I can see. No cheaper way to have one than the Draco route…other routes are available with kit builds, but are becoming more costly as time goes by.

If you’ve got a little experience with the AK then go for it. I would at least recommend some trigger time behind one before you take the plunge.

I SBR’d a M92 and couldn’t be more happy with it. There are many options for a stock, but I like the AR tube with Magpul CTR and an ACE folding mech. If you are willing to spend a little more time and money, a Bulgarian/Russian triangle folder is an option.

I’m not a fan of the arm braces. Spend the extra $ and get a stamp.

+1, skip that brace, and build a keeper…these rifles will run…M92 would be my 30 cal choice…

I never intended to run a brace.

7.62WildBill, I will probably PM you in the near future in regards to the wedge for the stock set-up.

Draco and don’t look back.

You guys are just destroying my “fun money” budget. Haha. Good luck on the hunt. Pics when you decide.

I used a Bulgy gas block and booster to convert an SGL31-94 to an AK-105ish clone. Heres a picture before my stamp, its since been chopped. I’ll have to take a new pic next time I drag it out. Best handling AK I own.

Not at all. I lucked into an SLR – 107 UR for a kilobuck which was my first AK.

Rock it, just understand the legalities and limitations.

Ek

That would actually be my ideal AK. I just can’t justify the cost right now.

Dude! Just need an AIMR FH to complete the package.
