Got about 30 days to go on getting my 223 sbr (10.5) with KX3 brake .
Looking at shooting less than 100yards and started thinking about ammo . Would you go with 223 or 556 ? and at what weight ?
I was thinking about my 2" 357 with the advice to run 158 38+p instead of 357.
We have an ammo section. Imagine that?

For defensive use, I am a big fan of bonded ammo. So the Federal T1/T3 and SPEER GD are two of my favorites.
The bonded bullets also greatly extend the lethal range of your SBR.

I would be inclined to do some testing on my own before making a choice based upon internet suggestions. While the above suggestions have serious merit, what I am saying is to learn by experimentation and practice what is best for you.
Distance to target, how hard a target and how precise need the shot be to preserve your life.

I am running Speer 55gr GDSP (#24446) in my 11.5" SBRs. I will likely be switching to the BHA 50gr TSX next year in all barrel lengths.
Some internet suggestions will have far more credibility than others. Consider the sources carefully. Local testing is a good idea, if the local tester understands how to set tests up and then scrutinize the results.
What kind of Barrel?
I’d first see what ran optimally in the gun… .223 pressure or Hot XM193/5.56 pressure ammo.
I would definately test different ammo and see what you like best.personally I would go heavy like 75grn ammo due to lost velocity with the shorter barrel
Actual velocities from my 11.5" Bravo Co LW CL 1 in 7 twist:
40 grain Nosler BT 3,050 ft/sec
55 Nosler BT 2850 ft/secs
60 Hornady V-Max 2790 ft/secs
69 SMK 2540 ft/secs
77 SMK 2511 ft/secs
Remarkedly to me the lighter the bullet the better the precision, rifle also cycles softer with the light weights, a function of dwell time I am sure.
Not useful unless we know what cartridges those bullets are loaded in.

Fed 205 or Tula Small rifle magnum primers, assorted powders by Accurate Arms, Vita Vourhi (SP) or IMR.
All dependent upon bullet weight as to type or quantity used.
