Email today from Midway usa 1in 9 16" A3 upper for $399.99 in case any one is interested.
Or get a bcm or LMT for $10-$20 less.
$100 off and it’s still a pos DPMS. Why wouldnt I spend a little more and get an upper thats lightyears better from BCM?
Bcm upper is $389. Middy or car.
Not that any of us care, but I think the DPMS upper comes with a BCG.
You can give a hooker a makeover to look respectable, but in the end she is still a hooker. DPMS could make it free and I would still pass, just not worth the aggravation and nightmares wondering if my upper is good enough to save my life…LOL:sarcastic::sarcastic:
It is a complete upper. charging handle, bcg, hand guards, fsb and flashhider. I know it’s dps, I mean dpms but for the guys that might not be willing to spend the money for a carbine from the left side of the chart this might be right up their alley.
100% agreement.
isnt that kind of like getting 100 bucks of a 1972 pinto with a rod knocking?
its still a 1972 pinto with a rod knocking…
Everybody has to start their AR-15 journey somewhere. While it may not be an option considered by most people here on M4C, the $399.99 DPMS lightweight upper may be a logical starting point for someone. Or it may make for an affordable spare upper for someone who lacks the wherewithal to afford anything else. Not everyone needs or wants a top tier, top shelf, top Chart rifle. The economy is still in the pooper, and budgets are tight. But that can’t quiet the brain that is dead-set on owning an AR-15. For some, just having ANYTHING in hand will suffice, just so they can ‘play along.’
Add a complete DPMS lower for $244.95 (Midway) and a Magpul FG Rear MBUS for $38 (also Midway), and you have yourself a starter rifle for $682.97 (not including FFL transfer fees and shipping).
A similar setup using the same lower and rear MBUS from Midway, but using a BCM lightweight upper, BCG, and standard charging handle would run $825.93 (not including FFL transfer fees and shipping). The $142.96 difference could go towards a couple magazines, ammo, and range time.
Different strokes for different folks.
Lest we forget an AR platform is primarily a fighting weapon. That should be priority #1 when purchasing, everything else it does is bonus. Better to “pony” up the cash now, then have your weapon go Tango Union later.
Defective
Piece of
Machined
Shit
And all of the malfunction drills to go with it. Trust me it’s worth the extra $$$.
For 80.00 more dollars you could get a complete spikes upper delivered.
For the money you would spend after purchasing the DPMS to get it reliable and functioning at optimal levels you would have by far spent more than if you would have just bought quality in the first place.
Purchasing a sub par weapon or part when you are informed and no longer ignorant of what is needed for Tier 1 weapons/applications is a complete and utter failure as a professional/gun enthusiast. You would be better off investing your money in alarm systems and panic rooms for you are just sheep. BAAAA!
I wasn’t endorsing the purchase of the DPMS upper in question. I was merely playing Devil’s advocate, and trying to point out reasons why the upper may appeal to some.
Or add $116.98 to the complete rifle package mentioned above, and you could have a complete Spike’s rifle (not including shipping and FFL fee).
A friend of mine ordered one of these, and he called me last week to help him assemble it…
(He didn’t consult me prior to purchase! Hahaha)
Put it on a Spike’s lower…
It SEEMS to work OK for now… Everything seemed to be in spec as far as assembly, but we only put 2 magazines of XM193 through it…
He is a “fudd” so I consider this to be a step in the right direction, but I am going to try and convince him to move up to a Spike’s or BCM early next year…
Looks like a pretty good deal to me…
So is a 20$ hooker if you don’t mind the STD’s Syclone!
I read that DPMS quality had taken a major dump. Law enforcement contracts cancelled for poor quality, problems with being out of spec.

…several recent and disturbing events involving DPMS AR15 Rifles.
Safety issues have surfaced and include broken cam pins, cracked bolts and weapons that slam fired when chambered to fire. Some of the same rifles have also had feeding and accuracy problems. Obviously death or serious injury could occur if and when additional cam pins and or bolts crack or break.
Additionally, these are conditions that are not easily rectified without new parts. The reliability of these firearms may be acceptable for private usage, but not for a law enforcement agency. If you need these weapons to protect yourself, reliable function ability should be unquestioned. Due to concerns about your safety and obvious liability concerns, DPMS AR 15 Rifles are no longer allowed for duty use.

Both links cite the same problem from a report filed in 2004. The first link was a MB thread regarding the quality of DPMS products. Many posters actually came to the defense of DPMS. The MB thread was from 2007. The incident complaint from the Reno sheriff from 2004 is suspect. It could be an intentional sabotage job. I don’t know.
Perhaps their (DPMS) quality control is better now, or perhaps it was never suspect to begin with? I have no idea but one report filed in 2004 shouldn’t destroy a companies reputation because of the internet.
IMO if DPMS is aware of that complaint report, they should do their best to expunge it if wasn’t accurate because it can surely hurt business!!
I don’t own any DPMS products nor do I work for them (for the record).
