SAS: Iranian Embassy Siege (2002)

I never saw 6 Days because one of the lads who was there, said it sucked. I don’t generally watch movies about modern mil events unless someone who was there, and or an SME, at least says it’s accurate/GTG.

Otherwise, I can just read the articles, and such like everyone else and skip the “creative license” taken by the film makers who think it’s OK to change the details to give us “based on true events” nonsense… So, someone who was there, SAS trooper Robin Horsfall, said that documentary (1) was spot on for accuracy and such. Any ones see it?

I can’t find it online anywhere I have looked so far. Figured it would be easy enough to find on Amazon, Netflix, etc, but no love.

Could this be it:

I liked 6 Days as a standalone flick, but realize there were inaccuracies.

I had not heard of the movie you linked. I do vaguely recall Who Dares Wins (1982), which I liked.

I don’t know, but I don’t think so. There’s one by the same name that came out well before that and many others on YT with similar names. One linked Director: Bruce Goodison
Writer: Louise Norman.

Yea I tried looking for the credits - no luck. Guess this will be background noise for the next hour.

Although not a documentary per se, The Final Option is an enjoyable movie from that time that includes some elements of the siege.

The other name was The Final Option. It’s on iTunes and is a fun movie, even now though it’s kinda dated.

Six Days was good. Don’t look at it as a documentary, just enjoy it for what it is.

Pretty sure this is it, as it matches the 1st half that Robin Horsfall uploaded to his Youtube page (Old Boy)

Here’s what Robin posted (starts at 3:11 in) https://youtu.be/ePjA-JmUTLo?t=191

Watching. Hopefully its the right one. Picking up a few facts I didn’t know, such as it was an Iraqi op. Interesting the Iranian’s had no security other than one Brit cop with a revolver who was smart to wait as he did to be most effective. When a terrorist from another country takes over an embassy of another country (neither of which the host nations likes…) it’s up to the host nation to deal with it? I wish they could hang back and tell the Iranians to send a team to deal with it. Their people, their embassy, their problem.

It appears the SAS were not their to take prisoners at all. I wonder if the take no prisoners policy has been pre decided.

“Mac” is exactly how I imagine an old school SAS trooper to look and act like.

Best line:

Interviewer: “did you shout a warning before you shot him?”

No, we shot him, he had a hand grenade so we just shot him." (big grins)

Their #1 priority was to rescue the officer Lock. I didn’t know that until this show. I wonder had the terrorists only had Iranian’s if they would have even bothered sending the lads.

I lol’d for real when Mac tells “Maggy” to “move her f-ing head” for blocking the TV post op.

Total assault took 11 mins, but their stun and smoke grenades set the embassy on fire.

Yeah, the Iraqi angle was new to me as well.

I’d expect the host nation would have to handle it. I doubt many countries would be cool with a foreign nation’s security force showing up and hanging around until the assault happened, plus support and logistics would be nightmarish.

The worst thing about 6 Days is the title. On day 2, you know that they aren’t going in…

MP5 goodness. Oh, so sweet.

This is what made everyone want an MP5 so badly.

So I knew a couple guys who were trained by at least one instructor involved in the raid and they said “6 Days” was mostly there without giving away stuff that they want to keep secret. They obviously wanted to tell an entire story, including the story of the reporter, the cop on the inside and even the terrorists as well.

I liked seeing the tidbit that were attempts to portray accurate gear and tactics.

If you want the hands down best documentary of the SAS find the DVD “The SAS In Action.” Incredible detail.

I think I have seen that. Did it feature Phil Campion, have stories of an op in Africa and Basrah?

I have not been around them (SAS) a lot (I did an exchange with RMC and while there worked with SBS), but really enjoyed the few times I worked with them.

Probably the same. But yeah, they covered everything in amazing detail. I was shocked by the amount of actual footage taken by the SAS of the Iranian Embassy raid.
