A man from El Salvador in the U.S. illegally who sued San Francisco after police turned him over to immigration authorities in violation of the city’s sanctuary law is set to be awarded $190,000, his attorney said Thursday.
Pedro Figueroa-Zarceno, 33, reached the settlement agreement with the city attorney’s office, said Saira Hussain, a staff attorney at the Asian Law Caucus who represented Zarceno. The agreement must be approved by the Board of Supervisors.
“It’s really important for San Francisco to remain a sanctuary city not in name only but also in practice,” Hussain told The San Francisco Examiner. “Our hope is that the department is going to look into this further and really examine the way that the department can do more."
If I were Trump, federal funding would be cut as of today.
This is absolutely bizarre. A city is deemed liable for lawful actions of its police in apprehending a criminal and turning him over to the federal agency with jurisdiction? And a settlement is negotiated on the basis of a state law that is probably invalid under the principle of federal legal supremacy?
It would seem that any SF taxpayer could sue on the basis that their assets are being converted and given to a criminal under an invalid law that’s in violation of federal law. (Taxpayers at large don’t generally have standing to sue their government over misuse of funds, but this is so egregious it might pass muster.)
They and their families get roads, benefits, education, medical care, etc. That citizens are paying for.
And paying increased car insurance, etc. For.
Then those people break another law.
Then they get sent to answer for breaking the law of being here.
And, in various cases they sue and get money for, or
Sanctuary agencies spring them and they murder citizens, etc.
Why and how is it even happening?
The only answer I have is some people hate, so fiercely hate, and so desperately want to tear down the environments that are the fruit of Western Civilization, European males, and a Christian value/legal/work system that they will do anything.
Still, I have no desire to cut and run. I wish to fight it, and end it, from within. San Fran and L.A. might be lost causes, but there a good guys throughout most of the rest of this enormous state. I want those 55 electoral votes going in our direction.
I may be dreaming, but if all the good guys leave, we won’t get to see all the liberal tears when we win. You should have seen the smile on my face driving to work the morning after Trump won. I was up until 3am watching, but I didn’t feel the least bit tired. Can’t say the same for all the people with “H” stickers on their cars.
