We ran through two bulk packs (100 ea) of the cheap Federal shells. Ran out of clays so we just started blasting some of the trigger trash, mag dumped on cardboard targets etc. I have one of the Saiga 12s made when Ivan’s BAC was dialed in right. Never missed a lick.
Damn. I forgot how much fun this shotty is. Damn near no recoil for a 12, action/weight sucks it up. Mag dumps are just a hard press. We were still smiling even while we loaded up the truck bed with a bunch of other people’s trash.
Never fired or even seen one in person. Funny you mention “cheap” shot shells, as we were talking about how expensive they’ve become comparted to the old $5 box days.
It’s funny you say that Mark……I recently cleaned out my dad’s old hunting closet and I found an unopened box of Remington 2 3/4 nitro mags….25 shells, 12ga….with a price of $9.99 on the box. I think they are $30 now. That “3 percent” annual inflation sure adds up.
Yeah, all ammo has gone up but it feels like shot shells are high on the curve. I have a couple MECs but with the price of shot I haven’t loaded any in a long time. Ain’t saving nothing that way.
My friend doesn’t own a shotty anymore and brought the 2 Wally World packs down to “get rid of”. I was grabbing my tricked out 500, but saw the Saiga and decided “why not both”. No offense to Hans but the 500 didn’t get any love that day. I used to only run good ammo though the Saiga. Mostly AAs, the Saiga has a rep for being a picky eater. I’ve run bulk pack through it before, but not as a steady diet.But you know the old saying, “The best beer is free beer”.
I really like the Saiga. It has never let me down in spite of my homebrew conversion and mods. Can’t quite manage to trust it enough to be more than a toy though. I’ve seen enough that choke and puke, and I’ve heard of a lot more.
