I’m trying to put together two first line belts. One is for duty using issued DFLCS kit, the other is for my personal use using an older crye blastbelt. I want to mount a molle adapter plate to the belt and either attach the holster (6004, 6378 respectively) straight to this or use the MLS system with it so I can remove/interchange holsters as desired.
Has anyone used any of these pieces of kit: the molle adapter plate, or the MLS? I understand the MLS holster mount can be inserted into MOLLE webbing, but how secure and stable is this? There is also an MLS receiver plate that might attach to the adapter plate, but I’m not sure.
I’ve been using the MLS for over a year. I don’t use a belt at all since I have everything mounted on my armor so I had no need to use the interchangeable plates, I just attached it to the molle. It is plenty secure. If your kit is old or just well used the molle webbing may sag then the holster sort of leans away from the molle at the top but it still seemed secure to me. I got new armor in January (my last set was 5 years old) and it’s good and strong. I did use a zip tie just to keep it from moving at all but it’s not strictly necessary. So far as the adapter plates go I didn’t like them because it stands the holster off too far for my taste.
What you get in the kit is 2 plates and 2 forks. 1 fork screws onto the back of your holster and weaves into the molle or snaps into the 2 plates. You then take one plate and mount it on your belt or thigh rig and the other plate mounts onto molle with the other fork. Then you can take the holster off the belt and snap it onto the molle or vire-versa. Or get a bunch of forks for different holsters and snap in different ones if your using a different gun that day. That was too much work for me so I just leave the holster permanently attached to the molle on my armor.
I use MLS components to mount each a Safariland 6378 for my M&P .45 and 1911, though I use them on a HSGI Universal Drop Holster Platform set high on my hip.
The MLS-18 plate (with guard) goes on the platform, and each holster gets a MLS-15 holster mount. I can swap out holsters in a couple seconds, that way. I particularly like this because, when mounted directly to the platform, each pistol rides close enough to my body that I’ve had some trouble positively hitting the ALS release. The plate puts the pistol and holster out another .5" or so, which solved the problem.
The mounts work well in PALS webbing; more stable that I thought it’d be, and I saw no problem with the forks maybe getting inadvertantly dislodged when I tried it on my vest. In regard to your belt(s), how stable it will be will depend on how rigid the PALS arangement on your belt is. I run a BFG SOC-C, and the outer flaps that mount the PALS is pretty soft. All that means is that I wouldn’t want to try it, but it might work very well for you if you’re looking to either holster directly to the outer belt.
Thanks guys, I was wondering if I could mount an ALS to it. I thought all of them have the same mounting system, but it’s nice to confirm this. I just ordered a set, so we’ll see how they work out. I also bought a molle plate, but that may have been unnecessary. I’ll try to post the set up when I get it done, which should be next week with the expected down time I will have in training.
