I purchased a Safariland ALS duty holster for the P229R with an X300. The exact model number is 6355-7442-131. My problem is that when I insert the pistol, it never really locks in. I can adjust the tension screw to tighten it up, but the actual locking mechanism simply isn’t engaging.
I have used an ALS holster before but it had both the ALS and SLS systems, whereas this one is just the ALS. The only thing I can come up with is that my pistol is actually a P229 DAK, and therefore I’m using the wrong model holster. I can’t think of a reason why the DAK would have different ejection port dimensions, but it’s the only thing that is different about my gun and what the packaging says this model is fitted for.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Is your P229 an older model with the half serrations at the rear of the slide, or is it the new version with the full length serrations like the P228?
I don’t know if that would matter or not, but there may be enough difference between the two to cause problems with the ALS. Call Safariland to make sure.
Good observation. Yes, mine is the older model with the half serrations. Unless I am mistaken, I don’t know that Sig makes a 229 DAK with the full ones. That would explain why the Safariland website mentions the DAK model pistols differently than the regular P229R. I’m betting that this is the root of the problem…
