Searched where I could, but not having a whole lot of luck. Possible dumb question… But, will the Safariland ALS (6390) mid-ride holster sit at the same original height (or very close to it) if I were to swap out Safariland’s mid-ride belt mount with a G-Code RTI duty mount and adapter plate? I would like to swap out between a couple different ALS holsters I have and would prefer to use G-Code’s RTI setup. I assume it would be the same but before I drop more cash on a potential holster setup I wont like (been there too many times) I figured I’d ask here first. If anyone has a picture of the two installed that would be awesome. Thanks everyone
Humm… Let me see if I can find an ALS holster that still has the Safariland belt mount on it. I switched all of mine over to RTI, but I may have one kicking around still so I can do a comparison. The drop on the RTI is slightly lower, in my experience. Give me a little bit and I’ll try and snap some pictures for you.
Ok here’s what I came up with… I only had a Safariland ALS for a m&p 45 with the stock mount. The RTI setup is for a Glock 22 (also ALS). The rest of my duty stuff is at work, but I think this is enough to show you the drop. Keep in mind the RTI Duty drop mount wont fit a standard 2.25" leather duty belt. You didn’t state what your specific use was, but just throwing it out there. The belt pictured is a crappy Blackhawk 1.75" The belt mounts pictured vary also: Safariland mount is 2.25", RTI Drop is 2", and the Regular RTI is 1.75"
Having all of that in mind, I did my best to set them mounted on top of the belt (where they would normally ride)… Obviously not ideal, but I’m working with what I’ve got.
From the back, Safariland left, RTI, right.

From the front. RTI Left, Safariland Middle, RTI regular Right. Note the difference in the hood heights. It’s roughly a half inch difference, which doesn’t seem like much, but I do notice it… especially if you rest your elbow on the grip, the RTI is almost too low to do comfortably.

And mounted on the regular belt mount: Safariland middle, RTI right. It’s really high, almost uncomfortably so for me, but still very usable.

Sorry the pics aren’t the greatest. I hope it helps some. I will say that if you can make the RTI stuff work, use it, because it is bulletproof - Really great product.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
Hey thanks for taking the time to do that. That tells me everything I need to know. I’m using a 2" Specter Gear duty belt inside an ATS war belt. I’m not military/LE but I prefer the mid ride height of the Safariland and don’t want to drop it much more than what it is. Now if I can just adapt the G-Code wheel to Safariland’s mid-ride mount I’ll be doing good. I know Safariland has their own style of quick detach, but I’ve used G-Code’s RTI on their OSH holsters and I like how slim it is.
Cool man, glad I could help.
If you’re running plates in a carrier, the RTI duty mount will probably be pretty nice for you… it provides a perfect amount of clearance for the draw stroke and making it so the gun and plates don’t collide when bending etc., without having to run a drop leg.
Running soft armor on patrol it’s just the tiniest bit too much for me, which is fine, as it doesn’t fit my leather duty belt anyway.
I believe RTI offers a kit for adding quick disconnect capability to existing Safariland rigs. I added a wheel to a Safariland drop leg panel and it works beautifully. haven’t tried it with a belt mount holster, but now that you bring it up, I may give it a whirl.
